My guess is that Sony might be asking too much money from M$ for the license/royalty fee. M$ is still probably doing all the legwork ahead of time in case they can negotiate a better price. Fortunately for them, it's still pretty early in the next-gen game. If they get their next generation console with a built-in Blu-ray drive out "on schedule" late next year, Blu-ray will just be starting to really pick up steam, so they'll still have a good chance to keep up with/stay ahead of the PS3. Until then, I definitely expect the PS3 will continue to outsell the 360.

Microsoft, you're on notice. You have to hit one out of the park with your next console, or I'm not buying it. This is coming from someone who owned both an original Xbox and a 360. The 360 is a great game machine. But the only thing Xbox live marketplace has going for it is convenience. The selection is lame. The restrictions are lame. The lack of portability is lame. Frankly I don't care. To me VOD/DL is only good for rentals and set top box aka DVRs are going to take care of that imho (be very afraid of a deal PS3 DVR - cable/sat operators MS ;) ).
If I want to have a great movie experience, best quality in video and audio possible, for my fav. movies -tht I do want to own btw-, I buy Blu Ray and then either a PS3 (which a I did buy) or a standalone.

I tried an HD VOD download ONCE, and I never will again... It took over a day on a dedicated cable modem, and it cost TWICE AS MUCH as my local dvd rental place! Sure you can "start viewing before it's downloaded," but that only works once it's somewhere around 90% or 95%! And what's with the whole 24 viewing window thing! Don't even TRY to tell me thats for my convenience to finish it later... as much as the frickin thing costs, I should be able to watch it until i actually finish it! In any case, I'm a netflix customer, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Get with it MS... Digital downloaded movies are NOT the future... not in any future... IMO, by the time broadband speeds get to the point that they can handle a 2 hour HD movie, at it's CURRENT size, in a reasonably decent amount of time (you know... putting the 'demand' back in VOD)... the sizes of the downloads will have increased (due to less compression, higher resolutions, interactive content, etc.). In which case it would STILL take forever to download! VOD... Video On DEMAND! When I 'demand' to see an HD movie, I don't want to wait a day to watch it... I want it NOW!

MS, I don't care if you put a BD player in any version of your console (though I think you'd be stupid not to eventually), but you must understand that VOD is not going to work, not for HD movies. It could work for a 30 minute TV show, but not a 2 hour movie. BD is the media today and probably the next decade at least, and it will be with or with out your support.

For the record, I love my 360, but the lack of BD support has (I won't say 'forced', but) given me a strong enough reason to buy a PS3. Is that really what you want... more PS3s in peoples homes?
