Is a fiber strand analog or digital? The answer is no, it is just a transport medium. No equipment manufacturer in their right mind would create a device that uses analog directly over fiber so it is all packaged in a digital transport and split by the equipment (NIU) installed at your house.
I think they're just removing a service that few people knew about, or used, anyway.
