I wonder what they'd do with them. Hopefully not destroy them as they're perfectly working dvd players. Hopefully they'd donate them instead of sending them to one of those companies that sells returned or discontinued hardware.
Donate them to who? (Or is it whom?)
"Here ya go, USD 123, a brand new BetaMax!"
Um, Frank, it does play DVDs as well.
Frank, what part of donate do you not understand. I don't think you make someone pay for something you donate...
I took mine back yesterday (bought it Nov 2). It was worth it just to see the puzzled looks on the faces of the Wally Workers as I explained WHAT the device was and WHY I was bringing it back... lots of fun!
how did you get them to understand what was going on? the walmart i just went to had no idea what i was talking about, and one woman was going on and on about how they're still making hd dvds. they also refused to call 1-800-walmart to confirm that this was legit.
Hmmm.
I bought an A2 on the pre-BF sale day for $98, but I'm not sure I want to return it. I have about 25 HD-DVDs, but I still have my 360 add-on. $98 towards another BR player would be nice.
Tough call.
This deal actually worked perfectly for me. I am going to take that $100 bucks and put it towards the purchase of a Samsung BDUP-5000 on Amazon. They are going sub-$400 from Amazon Wholesale right now. This way I can continue to buy the really cheap HD DVDs of everything I want and when I finally have to, I'll buy my first blu-ray disc. I held out for as long as I could.
The real problem isn't the players that wal-mart sold for 100 bucks. It's the discs.
Why would I want to get rid of the player that gives me HD movies and upconverts my DVD's better than my TV can? For 100 bucks, it's still a deal.
Now if I could swap my movies, we'd be talking. But it just seems pointless to refund the players.
I would consider a swap for a blu-ray player, but a refund is a flat out loss for most customers.
For me it isn't a flat out loss. I owned a PS3 before the pre-BF sale and love it. I only purchased the HDA2 because there were some red titles I wanted to watch. I never purchased any movies, instead relying solely on Netflix. Since the format war has ended, I have had this feeling of waste in the A2, and now I can get that refund. This is going to work out wonderfully for me.
You didn't send in for the free 5?
I did, but never received them. Yet another reason I have no problems taking advantage of this.
Just keep watching the mail. i bought my 360 add-on way back in like october ot september and didnt recieve my 5 free till the end of january.
I sent my rebate in at the end of November. A buddy of mine sent his in the same week and received his 5 in January. I have given up on getting them at all. No big deal. The titles they made available weren't really good anyway.
I don't know if theyt are still honoring the 5 free promotion, but if they are, go to HD DVDs website and find the number to call them. Once the alloted time was up I called and the HD DVDs made it to me the end of that week.
They are... If you haven't gotten it, call 1-800-405-7520--after 14 weeks, I called them and they gave me a song and dance about how I was approved but they hadn't shipped and it would be another 6 weeks, bla bla bla. I was ready to write it off, but 8 days after that call the discs showed up.

Deal
Patrick,
Please email me at tstradling@ hotmail. com and we'll work out details.
how about anyone for a A2??
Mitchell
My A30 works fine. All my HD DVD movies work fine. I thought they may stop playing after Blu ray won, but to my surprise they still work!! Why would I sell?
Well most people like to watch new releases, and with a bluray player you could get them in HD, so...
I've got an A35 that I just love, so my original A2 being returned would be a plus since I'm in the process of gathering components to build a HTPC.
Ditto, I'm going to get that LG dual format BRD/DVD burner for 185.
I'm waiting for the new southbridge to go with the AMD 780 chipset so that I can get all of the new surround sound codecs out via HDMI.
I was able to get my A3 refunded that I paid $300 for back in December. It took a little convincing as it kept showing up as $74 when they registered. I bought it as a deal they had with five movies off the shelf for free with purchase. They didn't even know about it. I printed the posted letter for them and a copy of the old ad I had purchased it under. It took the lady 20 minutes to talk it over with the store managere, but they approved the full refund.
so they screw over the people who bought the orgianl players when the they 500 bucks. oh well,
