TiVo's win over DISH Network upheld by court of appeals: It's over
Bad day for DISH Network, first its satellite is gone for good and now comes word its appeal to overturn TiVo's lawsuit has been denied. That should put an end to the legal push and pull between the companies, with TiVo firmly on top, DISH customers could have their DVRs pulled out from under them. Win in hand, TiVo has a lot more leverage against other providers to put its service on their boxes, (which might not be the worst thing if you've used some cable DVRs) and leaves the company looking a lot more lively.

Well the TiVO implementation, public beta, on Comcast boxes is still crap. No DD 5.1 still months after the production roll-out. I dumped the service and just got the A25 update to the Comcast DVR. I think it is way better than Comcast TiVO service.
So I have been waiting for the Comcast Tivo software but it doesnt support DD 5.1? It really irritates me when Comcast gives shows DD 2.0 when the OTA is in 5.1
Doh...I just had a Dish DVR installed today.
I hope there's a change. Dish's HD DVR sucks if you have more than 1 tv. Dual mode single mode...jeez. It sucks having to change it to single mode if I'm recording something and I want to watch another channel. At least put the button to change
to single or dual on the freakin remote!
you don't have to change it from single to dual or dual to single mode, all you have to do is get into the menu and set it to record to the tv you want, tv1 or tv1. record to the tv you use the least.

That is why Dish Network will always be a 2nd rate company. The other issues is poor customer service and the fact that Charlie likes to cut channels during negotiations, which in turn hurts the customer because they are still paying for the channels, but can't view them. remember 8 years ago, viacom channels, outdoorlife (for us outdoors and nhl fans) the lifetime channels for those who enjoy that.
My hope is that Dish gives Tivo access to their upcoming USB based stand alone tuners (designed for Vista Media Center). I don't want to have to buy new Dish\Tivo hardware. Allow me to plug the Dish USB tuner into my TivoHD and I'll drop comcast in a minute.
I think all that will happen is that Dish Network will pay TiVo a licensing fee and will pass that fee on to its DVR customers in the form of a DVR rate hike.
I think DISH would make a better move if they just bought out Tivo, as their market value is crap compared to what they owe Tivo for damages.
I believe that all of the currently in use DVR's have had their software changed to be non-infringing. This will not impact current Dish DVR subscribers.
Hmm... Direct TV may have a new customer soon...

Is this going to effect the echostar tr-50 hd dvr scheduled to come out in July/August?
According to the Dish Network Press Release current Dish DVR customers will not need to give their DVR up.

They would say that. Problem is, after you are caught infringing, it's your problem to prove you've stopped.
