Sony BRAVIA XBR 2008 roadmap leaked
Good news for the pixel-starved: Boy Genius got a hold of a Sony's 2008 BRAVIA roadmap, which includes word of new XBR6, XBR7 and XBR8 LCD displays. We caught wind of the new XBR6 line at CES, along with the KDL-40Z4100 and the KDL-46Z4100, but apparently things are going to get much more interesting in August when the KDL-46XBR8 drops. New features include "Triluminos" RGB LED backlight, Advanced Contrast Enhancer PRO and BRAVIA Engine 2 PRO 1080p video processor. The XBR7 panels measure as large as 70-inches, and will launch in October, but sport features more in line with the XBR6. Everything is naturally 1080p and 120Hz.
Update: We just got ourselves sent a UK version of this roadmap. It's after the break.

I personally feel Sony is a JERK about most of their products, only really looking out for their own interests instead of satisfying the consumer. But when it comes to TVs and *some* of their media players, they always deliver in spades. Looking forward to the LED LCDs, hopefully that will offset the gigantic power usage of everything else in the set.
Cool, let me guess SONY will want at least 4000 for the XBR8 which of course is overpriced. I think SONY wants to make back all the money that they spent on Bluray(like paying money to studios ect). I don't have a problem paying money for a great TV, but when I compare their price with Samsung, sharp and others is way overpriced. I already have the XBR4, but I need another TV for the living room so I can move the XBR4 to my bedroom.
I knew that the bigger XBR were coming in August like last year releasing early sizes in spring and bigger sizes by the end of summer.
I am not concern about these TV right now, what I am concern is I want to buy my first Bluray player (not PS3 i don't play games). I want the new panasonic BD50 which now I don't know when will be released.
I have the 46xbr4 and I have a lot of issues with it. What are your settings and what HDMI are you using.I've used Acon from Directv and Monster Cable for $100 and the picture quality is the same for Blu-ray,HD channels, and PS3 games.
BTW, I'm a happy owner of a KD-34XBR960. I wish it were larger, but otherwise it is the best piece of technology I have every owned.
Wow, Sony, from 60" and 70" more affordable SXRDs, you go up to 52" and think you have got it made in the marketplace...but no.
Even though there is a 55" Bravia LCD panel lurking out there, it will probably be double or more what many paid for the SXRD and you will call it "progress", but for who?
The 70" LCD set, in your current "marketing model" costs as much as a good automobile, around $33,000, hardly worth it except for the very wealthy...what do you have for the average consumer who sits at the distance of a 60" or 65" inch set (or 70", like you had with the SXRD or "Qualia")?
Nothing.
My next set will be a Panasonic 65" Plasma or Sharp Aquos 65" LCD set, still more pricey, but for THEIR prices against your 70" set, I could buy at least THREE of them.
Your AVRs are very good, your Blu-ray is excellent and the cameras and computers are fine, too...but your HDTVs are missing sizes and affordable pricing after 52"...bad for you, SONY!
Well, Samsung has a 70" HDTV priced at $40,000 too so you can't bad mouth them about that. But what I don't understand is the TVs are priced north of $4000 and the equivalent set by Samsung has better specs and is cheaper! I think Samsung's HDTVs sell better than Sony because many stores offer better deals on them than Sony's HDTVs and a consumer isn't hurt by the better specs either!
LCD TVs suck. Period. If Sony wants to be the best they've got to ditch their LCD Bravia line and produce +50" OLED sets ASAP. Otherwise, this year will yet again be a let down for Sony and Pioneer with their 2nd gen Kuro Plasma line will dominate the market.
