New York's The CW 11 (WPIX) takes newscasts to HD

Just over three months after Albany's CBS affiliate took its news to high-def, New York's The CW 11 is joining the parade. As of Sunday, the station is now broadcasting its news in HD, though there's been no big announcement made from WPIX itself. Hey WNYW and WWOR -- feel like hopping on the bandwagon, or is SD treating you two okay?

I haven't lived in the NY media market for a long time, but I just can't let a posting about WPIX go by without recalling their stupid "pix" call in games in the after school broadcast when I was kid. It was like they had a guy playing Atari over the broadcast, and he'd shoot every time the kid on the phone shouted "pix". Brings back memories (yes, dorky memories, but memories none the less).

I Dont get it... All our TV in Australia has been HD for years, what with Americans, they usally have all the cool stuff, yet here we are with Free to Air 1080i and 720p TV, movies look better on TV than DVD over here. You yanks and your weird NTSC standards...

(yes i know the HD standards are the same, but still, NTSC is just weird)
