Dolby Volume to keep levels consistent on Toshiba HDTVs

If you'll recall, Dolby Technologies actually introduced its Dolby Volume solution last fall, but now the firm has announced that it'll be a built-in component of several Toshiba HDTVs. The REGZA ZH500 and ZV500 families, which launch in Japan next month, are both set to include the outfit's audio-processing technology, and in case you couldn't tell, it specializes in keeping volume levels consistent regardless of audio source. Finally, a simple method to overcome those blaring commercials -- just buy a new TV!

Whatever. They have claimed to fix this issue many times and it never works. How about accually inforcing the law and go after the people that cause the problem.

I work in video post production and there are STANDARDS in place for sound levels... But apparently no one pays attention anymore and the networks don't enforce them - the crappier the product in the commercial, the louder it blasts out of your TV

People actually use the speakers in their TV? It's just not possible to experience any kind of decent sound (let alone 5.1 surround) through a pair of 3" TV speakers. Now these people will have the additional disadvantage of losing the drama of dynamic range in their programs. Everything will probably sound as overcompressed and flat as FM radio. Sad, really, and hardly a match for the great picture they'll have.

All to avoid having to touch a remote? Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater!
