They want their doubtful rhetoric back.

TiVo is doing just fine. It's facing a slow climb to profitability, but so did Amazon. Both addressed new markets, both were the best at it, and both took a long time to move from giant cash shredders to financially independent entities (TiVo isn't quite there yet, but probably will be in a couple of years).

Jarrod Frates

Comments on TiVo brings back $399 Lifetime Service plan

I have a TiVo HD with lifetime service and a 500GB external drive for $700 with free shipping. I'm on my fourth replacement unit (bad drives, video card failure, etc.) and now it's stuttering...it seems like they've really dropped the ball on their HD units, which is further aggravated by the Cablecard nonsense - - whenever the HD goes out, I lose cable TV until it's replaced (all but the first 100 channels).

They had a chance to crush the competition with great service and hardware, but I'm now learning to live with the less schnazzy, but so far FAR more reliable cable-provided unit - rotten UI and less features, but it seems to actually work reliably - which is really Job 1 for a recorder.

Phloog
