DISH Network's forthcoming DVRs get detailed: hints of Sling all over
Although DISH Network's previous quarter wasn't anything to write home about, it sounds like the satcaster (EchoStar, technically) isn't going to allow its set-top line to grow stale in the process. During the recent Team Summit in Nashville, Tennessee, DISH's CEO Charlie Ergen reiterated that it would be beaming out "more than 100 national HD channels" by the end of 2008, and he also made mention that the EchoStar 11 satellite would lift off in July. Most interesting, however, was all the talk about the new STBs. The forthcoming ViP 722s will be the first HD DVR from the outfit with loads of Sling technology built in -- not too shocking considering the recent acquisition. Additionally, the box is said to feature an all new interface and the ability to browse to (select) websites, double as a SlingCatcher and even handle Clip & Sling duties. There's plenty more where this came from, so be sure and hit the read link when you've got some spare time for reading.

Are you sure it's the VIP 722? That's an HDDVR that's been out for a while.

Yes, the number that was given is the 722s. Note the 's' - it is a different unit than the standard 722. Same with the 722k, also disclosed today - not the same as the 722 - nor the 722s.
Dish may change the numbers/names before the final release, or maybe they're looking to make a 722 'family' with variants.
I see the remote comes with an extra dose of ugly.
Yep, they are not that attractive, but (at least with the older model) the remotes are quite functional. Those tacky color swatches at the bottom are to show which remote stays in which room since they can do more than one.
I wonder how much Dish is gonna rake over its current customers who want one of these? New customers get lots of goodies, but current subscribers always seem to get screwed over on deals.
Its good that they keep updating there DVR's, but I'm still waiting on that Tivo for Dish. Get that lawsuit done so Dish & Tivo can work together.
Have you ever used a Dish DVR? Much better than Tivo. And at a much lesser cost. I use both DVR's. Dish has much better hardware. The menu and guides drom Diret TV just plain suck. You have to use twice as many buttons to achieve the same result. As for Tivo, keep it standalone and out of Dish and DIrect TV.
