Samsung shows off SMT-3090 tru2way DVR

Any cable operators about to roll out tru2way on their network may take a look at Samsung's SMT-3090 set-top box. The dual-tuner HD DVR comes with a 160GB HDD, DOCSIS 2.0 modem for interactive communication to the headend and Multistream CableCARD. Samsung didn't leave Panasonic alone, as it's also demoing a tru2way LCD TV, See'n'Search web-enabled tru2way box and a tru2way STB that communicates with the headend to deliver targeted ads based on viewing patterns. No word on how long before any of this equipment is expected to hit the street, check after the break (or our gallery) for more pics
God, tru2way is so horrible. I wish the CE companies would get together and create their own video-on-demand service, that way the cable companies wouldn't be able to use that to force tru2way on everyone.
How can anyone complain or have a problem with Open Cable tru2way? It's a dream come true because it means the cable industry doesn't rule with an iron fist. We are not at the mercy of using THEIR box and paying THEIR box rental fees so they can get more money from us. Now you can walk into a store, pick up the box of your choice (just like cable modems) and still be able to use on demand, and schedule recordings (on the DVR versions).
Damn, no firewire. Please Samsung, consider adding firewire support. I've been waiting to dump my cable box, but still would like to have firewire support for my D-VHS. Also, the hard drive is riduculoulsy small, but acceptable if hard drive expansion support is unlimited in size.
Still only a 160 GB hard drive? What's up with that? They should be including 500 GB drives, minimum, now.
This is like a barebones cripled cable company dvr. COME ON Samsung - is this the best you can do!! I thought the when FCC banned cable companies from forcing us to rent their crappy boxes, we would see some nice feature loaded cadillac boxes. :(
Fry's Electronics (Outpost.com) is selling 750GB retail packaged internal SATA2 Seagate drives for $109. Why are these ba$tards so cheap in using larger drives?
So is this something that will be available in stores like Best Buy? Or is this one of those "you get it if your cable company gives it to you" deals.
If you can purchase it, then you could open it up and pop in a bigger drive. Well hopefully the SATA ports actually work, unlike the current Motorola DVR's.
If you look closely at the remote photo, you'll see that it has a TWC logo on it. So it's probably only going to be available for rental from your Cable provider.
Does it come with the ugly stick they used on it?

Looks like the put passport Echo OCAP instead of ODN Navigator. There is also a Samsung SMT-H3092 which has multi room capabilities and MoCA.
