Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"With all the new multitouch capable monitors coming out, which one is the best? With the release of Windows 7 I really want a touchscreen monitor for my desktop. I'm looking to get a Full HD monitor that supports multitouch and can still look great during gaming and movies. Which one has the best specs for the price?"
+1 on on the "if you have space for a projector go for it" but I haven't seen too many apartments that are suitable for them.
It also sounds like money is an issue, so if you want a big 1080p screen, go DLP. (The LED Samsungs are very nice) Doing so will get you a lot of screen for a lot less than LCD or Plasma. Of course they are a whopping 14" deep, so you you might not have space for it.
