I don't get this. Is DisplayPort compatible with HDMI or not? And if it is, what is the point of a separate standard? This stuff should get rolled into HDMI as a profile or something.

They're completely different standards. It's actually better than HDMI. Plus it's license free, no HDMI royalties involved.
