Sony plans "medium to large" OLED panels in FY2009 -- Samsung trembles
Competition: so beautiful in its simplicity, so effective in its execution. Sony just authorized an additional ¥22 billion ($210 million) as it aims to produce "medium-to-large sized OLED panels" in fiscal 2009. For Sony, that's the year spread from April 2009 to March 2010. Not coincidentally, that's the same production timeline that Samsung is on. Oh, the OLED game is so on.

Awesome news. Hehe, Sony in competition with Samsung for OLED, yet at the same time they closely cooperate; they have a joint venture with Samsung for LCD's, and another one with Sharp :)
What does "medium to large" mean?
30, 40, 50 inches?
certainly not 50... typically medium sized refers to 23-37... maybe 40-42 tops...
Large had better mean 60", or they are absolutely lying. I personally put large at 70" and over, but since LCD and Plasma aren't really even there yet outside of statement pieces, I suppose we can't expect it of OLED.
My wallet is already cringing in fear.
I sure hope these monitors do not have glossy screens that reflect images of distracting in-room surroundings onto the screen.
OLED is still in the early stages. Recent tests don't favor this technology as of yet. More work needs to be done... Buy at your own risk.
Samsung Trembles? Yea Sure ! Overpriced Sony stuff does not thrill me.
