Considering that several 2 hr movies were put on HD DVD with extras and looked great, I'm sure they can fit the extended edition on one disc and put the extras on another disc. Return of the King is the questionable one with a 251 minute run time. But if you look at transformers, it was 144 minutes with extras on another disc (HD DVD guys correct me on any details since I don't own this disc). Thats 144min/30GB = 4.8min/GB. LotR:RofK would be 251min/50GB = 5.02min/GB. Not much difference there.
