Blue Underground goes Blu-ray, announces initial slate of releases
Fitting, isn't it? Blue Underground, a well-respected distributor of cult / horror films, has decided to start releasing projects on Blu-ray Discs. Additionally, we now know the first half dozen flicks that it plans on releasing: The Final Countdown, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, The Stendhal Syndrome, Maniac, Vigilante and Fire and Ice, though we're sure hits like Uncle Sam, Dead and Buried and Two Evil Eyes won't be far behind. Each disc will boast 1080p transfers, 7.1 DTS-HD / Dolby TrueHD audio tracks, D-Box Motion Code (on select titles) and a plethora of extras. We're still curious to see how the transfers turn out, but this is certainly good news for underground horror fanatics.

And now it's time for all the poorly encoded B-movies to invade the market. I still remember when this very thing happened with DVDs.
I don't know about their horror flicks, as I'm not big on the genre, but the final countdown was pretty nicely done. I'm interested to see if they can do anything better with the Blu-Ray.
I can't wait, it about time i got to see vampryos lesbos and justine if full hd glory.
Does the cover art remind anyone of Sega Genesis games circa 1990s?
I can name at least 5 similarities:
The Final Countdown : Afterburner
Maniac: Splatterhouse
Vigilante : Streets of Rage
Fire and Ice: Golden Axe
The Stendhal Syndrome: Night Trap (Sega CDizzle)
The cover art, for the most part, is the original theatrical one-sheet art.
The Special Edition of The Final Countdown looks great on DVD. Great movie.
I saw The Final Countdown in the cinema when I was a kid. Not the greatest film in the world but it has a good cast and an engaging plot. I wouldn't buy it to own but I'd certainly watch it again if it were on TV.
I loved The Final Countdown when I was a teenager. One of my favorites at the time. I ran across the DVD recently and had to get it. Have to say that, after 20 years, it didn't quite live up to my memory of it. Not horrible, certainly, just not as good as I remembered. :)
Well, Looking at the trailer, it already looks better than the dvdpresentations we got here.. If these discs also come with a low price than I'm all for it.. Let's remember, it was not until the lowbudget dvd-discs became available that dvd became a hit... So hopefully Bluray will get another push with these, cause IMHO >$15 is too much for a movie (especially if you already have a lot of them on dvd)..
