Samsung's firmware v1.3 takes BD-UP5000 to Profile 1.1
Here it is, BD-UP5000 owners -- the file you've been waiting for. If you were somewhat underwhelmed by the fixes in firmware v1.2, you'll probably be a-okay with what v1.3 is packin'. Released today, this update takes the combo player to Profile 1.1, adds in "HD audio bit-stream output" and "improves playback compatibility in some movies." 'Nuff said, right? Hit the read link to get that download rolling, and do let us know how wonderful your life becomes when it finishes installing.

Yay!!!
Bout time!
Wow, this took forever!!! Lots of my friends have been waiting since December...... Yikes....
Finally it outputs dolby true hd......
This is annoying. I went through the trouble of connecting my player to the internet and the update isn't available that way (at least not yet). Now I'm going to have to waste another disc updating this thing (the other time when the previous update disabled my network connection).
I was told internet firmware update usually is a day or two behind web.
Besides, I saw at least two incidents where ppl bricked their players doing firmware update via internet. So, disc update is a preferred way to do it.
The new firmware fixed most of the known issues. Now I can truely enjoy my 5k and large collection of HD DVDs and BluRay discs.
You can brick a player with disc updates, too. Power failures during flash update, for example.
I updated my 5K using a CD. No problems at all.
I'm using a HDMI and using Audiophile Bitstream mode. Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio sound fantastic!!!!
The update apparently provides all audio formats via bitstream, and at least all Dolby 5.1 formats via analog out. It is possible that all formats are decoded internally to PCM on the 7.1 analog outs. That was the original spec, although it was quickly asterisked and altered.
Since previous firmware supported DTS 5.1 (core) to PCM on the analog outs, it is not immediately clear if DTS-MA is now available on analog out. This is only testable with certain discs (e.g. Pan's Labyrinth) that provide 7.1 DTS-MA and a setup that can test the surround back outputs from analog out. Presumably this will be known by day end.
All disc incompatibilities are reported fixed, but this may change.
One thing still complained about: SD 4:3 appears stretched on some TVs.
Note that, using analog out 5/7.1, one can get all new audio formats into an AVR that has no HDMI, so long as it has 5.1 or 7.1 audio jacks in. For someone with significant HD DVD discs, this is a fine one-box-fits-all solution to ALL DVD needs (except for DivX).
Can't wait to get home and update! :¬D
I wish this one would have been released in Erope, would have bought it instantly. Was in the states in April and was crying when i saw for how cheap you could get it for....:-(
I am so glad this update has finally hit. As kcmurphy88 said, this is indeed a fine one-box-fits-all solution to all my dvd needs. now if RefurbDepot.com could just get on the ball with shipping the order I placed for one of these two Saturdays ago...i'll be in high cotton
downloaded it today and it is still no bit-streaming HD audio to my Pioneer Elite VSX-94TSX. I tried with Rush Hour 3 wich is DTS-MA 7.1 and it did the same thing it has always done, nothing. This has to be the most frusterating player I've ever owned. i have the Pioneer Elite 94 model but switched to this one in my dedicated theater when i sold my Toshiba XA2 on ebay (which by the way bit-streamed DTS-MA without any issues and i regret selling it every day). I've tried every possibility as far as the set-up audio menu and it doesnt help. Anyone with any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
Mike what comes out when you put it through the pdf or digital link
This update is now available via the player's internet connection
I used the web update and the Samsung too the update for the 1500, now the damn thing works about 1 out of every 20 tries, and they expect me to PAY to ship it in from Hawaii while they keep it for 6 weeks. I'd advise people to not buy this, or ANY, Samsung product...
