I replaced a lot of DVD's with HD DVD at bargain prices, but not so much with Blu. I've got an HD-XA2 with a HQV Reon, so one might say my upscaler is a bit better than the $70 unit being sold in big box stores. (In fact IS there a better upscaler? My PS3 does a good job, but not Reon good.)
For future releases, a great transfer and good price on a title I've already bought will likely mean a double dip. If the Blu version doesn't stand out in picture and audio, then I'll pass.
Yeah i agree your a tool . Not because you brag about you upscaler because you brag about HD DVD . Dude its dead , get over it ... I have about 25 hd-dvds and player that are going to collect dust , but i will never brag about them
I have no intention of replacing HD-DVDs that I have with Blu-ray discs. It's not like my player magically stopped functioning when Toshiba stopped making new ones.
DVDs, yeah, I'm replacing them when I see used discs available at a fair price. Most recently it was Underworld and Underworld Evo, the Resident Evil flicks, and House of Flying Daggers.
Wow, why all the venom directed at someone for expressing their OPINION? Where is he bragging about HD DVD? He DOES have what is considered by most to be the best up-converter in the market, and says that he's happy with DVDs and dirt-cheap HD DVDs. What's the problem?
@JR oh my, didn't you get up on the wrong side of the bed.
First off my wife and I LOVE MOVIES. Secondly we were format neutral before HD DVD was axed, so if you consider my purchase of HiDef titles at $10 or less during fire sales bragging then fine. No one was stopping you from doing the same, but I don't see where taking advantage of the situation comes across as smug. I actually thought of it was more like dumpster diving.
I merely pointed out that I have what is pretty much regarded as the the best available upscaler and already replaced some of my DVD collection with HD DVD versions at fire sale prices. I've also replaced some my collection with Blu-Ray versions. If the Blu had lost I would have done the same thing.
If Blu versions of my existing collection that I've watched more than 2 or 3 times were released with highly rated PQ/AQ for $20, I would probably buy them. Movies with two or less viewings would have to cost $15 or less.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
It depends on the movie and the transfer.

I averaged about $15 on those, so I'm satisfied.
