Research firm says Blu-ray sales outpacing DVD sales of yesteryear in western Europe
Yes, this really is yet another research firm chiming in on the pace at which Blu-ray is being adopted. This go 'round, we've got Futuresource digging into the numbers, though it is looking exclusively at western Europe. According to Jim Bottoms, managing director of corporate development at the outfit, the "early indications are that Blu-ray player sales are running way ahead of DVD after the same time period." He continued on to say that his firm expects some 10 million Blu-ray players (Sony's PlayStation 3 included) to be in use before 2009 dawns, whereas just 1.5 million DVD players were installed after its third year on the market. Notably, the importance of the PS3 in all of this wasn't understated, but the data didn't mention how many of those 10 million were expected to be consoles.

Yes, well at the time though Western Khazakstaniland where this BDA research comes from didn't have electricity 10 years ago, but hey, you cant argue with facts.
Khazakstaniland? Are you just some typical western bigot?
@JD
You try and have a little light hearted fun and humor, and there is always some tool who comes along and pisses on the parade!
Why do people keep posting this? Most useless stat ever. 100% cherry picked statistics. The PS2 (the first widespread dvd player) didn't even come out until the 3rd or 4th year of dvds existence. Whereas the PS3 STARTED blurays existence. Oh really, bluray is selling faster than dvd when it is included in a console that would have sold just as many units anyways? When compared to what? $500+ dvd stand-alones for 3+ years until the ps2 and other cheap dvd players came out? Wow. Is grass green too? Please, engadget/every other blog out there, just stop already...
Bravo pakron1122!
I think because Blu Ray is doing so poorly they have to shove these useless numbers at us to try and start some kind of buying frenzy.
Blu Ray will be adopted when the players sell for $99.00 - no sooner.
That may be the case in trailer parks across US perhaps but Europeans appreciate quality gear and know the difference between cost and value however.
Yeah, only a billion dollars in revenue this year. It's tanking!

No more research predictions, PLEASE. They are worse than useless.
Yeah, "research predictions£ (an oxymoron if ever there was).
LMAO
When the people who paid for research are never named then you can excuse the doubts of those of us who prefer to use our brains & want something much more open & reliable.
