I believe twenty years, minimum. As others have stated, higher than 1080p is just not necessary in the home. Super Hi-Vision might be able to find a place in commercial theaters, but the backers would have to convince content providers to invest in the equipment to record, edit, and project at that resolution. Not likely anytime in the near future.
Think about this: The Star Wars prequels were "filmed" digitally at 2k resolution (A.K.A. 1080p). If 1080p is enough resolution for a commercial theater, it's PLENTY for home.
