Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy on Blu-ray September 16th
It's quite possible that you're not really taking a long, hard look at what's coming up in September, but for those acutely aware of what's taking place, you can easily see that said month will be a total drain on the wallet. Shortly after hearing that masterpieces such as The Godfather trilogy, Kill Bill 1 & 2 and Transformers (okay, so maybe the latter hasn't reached masterpiece status just yet) would be hitting in September, now we've got the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy arriving as well. On September 16th, fans of Mr. Depp and Mr. Sparrow alike will have the opportunity to acquire the six-disc set for $82.99, which will include a 1080p presentation of the features and the same supplements found on each of the individually released discs. Just to clarify, what you're seeing here is a repackaging of the titles already out there, so folks who have already snagged all three individually won't find anything new in this.

$83 for 3 old re-release movies, no wonder blu ray is going no where, that is daylight robbery!
MSRP is $83. Individually, MSRP for each movie is $35 so you do the math there genius.
Besides, you will be able to pick these up for less than when released... but you knew that already didn't you?
Deeznutz:
Where do you shop buddy? I completely understand MSRPs. But, that's nothing but an over-inflated price. Now, the average price for any one of this movies is around $22. So, an MSRP of $83 would probably come to around low $70s. Unless this set is sold for around $50, I'd consider it a raw deal.
Rob,
Thanks for making my point. I know that MSRP is overinflated, but since DVD4ME was commenting on the MSRP, I simply referenced that this is a good deal based on MSRP alone. Granted, as I also mentioned, it will be available for cheaper, and the only way to judge its value is to see whether the collection sells for cheaper than the individual movies
If Amazon continues the 30% off prices on HDM, then it'd be about $53 or so for the box set, which is very reasonable.
Spin it any way you want Deeznutz, these prices are ridiculous and you know it!
Are the other major releases also going to have this butt-ugly creatively-bankrupt packaging?
This set is more for the savings than the box
I prefer the original boxes outside of each blu-ray
Savings???!!! $83!!!
Any word on if the second movie is still in 1080i like it was on the previous release?
The movie was never 1080i. The box was a misprint. The movie played in 1080p.
$83??...this is why I'm not in any hurry to buy Blu-ray movies just yet, I'll just stick to renting from netflix. It's like Blu-ray movies all have an idiot or dork tax associated with them, and I'm not in any hurry to pay it.
Seriously, that can't be the final box design. Can it?
Also, $83 is a bit much, especially considering only the first film is worth owning.
In Belgium we can already buy this box for 69 euros.
