The Weather Channel snapped up by NBC

Just as hurricane season gets up to speed, The Weather Channel itself has been swept up by NBC. Along with Bain Capital and The Blackstone Group, the Wall Street Journal reports the weather broadcaster sold from Landmark Communications for $3.5 billion. Don't expect them to abandon those new high definition digs anytime soon however, since it will still be based in Atlanta, although Broadband TV News mentions NBC's own Weather Plus may find itself in dire straights as a result. As long as we still get to see some guy yammering into a microphone about strong wind gusts while leaning almost horizontally to keep from being blown away in 1080i, we'll be happy with the deal.Read - Variety

I've always been a little curious as to why the weather channel was broadcast in HD...
why would it be so terrible for weather+ to go off the air?
It wouldn't, in my opinion. If NBC quit Weather+ as a subcarrier, the main channel would look even better in HD.
Yeah I hate Weather+ and am not sure what football would look like on NBC without -- ohh yeah I do, it would look the same without the big blocks everywhere.
Does this mean we'll see wrestling on the Weather Channel now? (like the idiotic programmers did at NBC did on Sci-Fi?)

Amen to that. I don't start paying attention to weather events until Jim Cantore has tied himself to a pole to keep from blowing away.
