NBC11 gives Bay Area residents local news in HD
Well, if it isn't about time. KNTV (the Bay Area NBC affiliate) has just recently switched its local newscasts to high-definition, giving residents of Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose the opportunity to catch up on nearby happenings in glorious HD. There has been no big to-do about it, but a video waiting after the jump shows a clip promoting the refreshed NBC Bay Area HD. So, anyone in the area ditching their favorite talking heads to view others in high-def?

Too bad I haven't really watched NBC since they left KRON. I know it was KRON's choice, but to say NBC buying this POS station was an epic fail would be the understatement of the decade.
Good luck on watching a newscast without HD dropouts.
San Antonio's CBS affiliate KENS, switched over to HD for their local news at the beginning of this month. Its quite impressive and I know i've switched over to watching their newscast more than the others.
BFD. Here in Seattle all the network affiliates and the independents have been broadcasting in HD for ever.
It's funny, I was just talking about this with my friend a couple of weeks ago how KNTV is the only network affiliated channel here in the Bay Area that is not in HD. This really won't make me tune in; not a fan of their coverage.
Here in Nashville, TN there's only one station that broadcasts their news in HD. CBS Affiliate WTVF. They've been in HD for a few months now and sort of brag about their ratings a bit, randomly playing "Thanks for making Channel 5 HD #1 (insert timeslots here)" and it seems like they're regularly beating the competition. I'm surprised the other stations are so slow to adopt this technology, it's not like HD is an 'early adopters' toy anymore.
Who cares? It's regional news... There is NOTHING more counter productive than this... Give us real news on what's REALLY happening in Iraq and Afghanistan, or anywhere else in the world... It would be time to stop watching our own navels gather lint, for pete's sake...
Agree with others here that KNTV isn't that great of coverage. I found it pretty sad, too, that they were the last to switch to HD, since NBC seems to be the ones to promote HD the most. Anyway, I rarely watch news coverage in HD at all (internet is far easier for news), but it's nice to know all our networks are now news in HD.
KNTV is the most embarrassing, amateurish television station I've ever seen in a major market. And even though they were thrust quickly into their current position as the Bay Area's NBC affiliate, they have yet to step up and improve anything years later. The geniuses who run the place obviously hand-picked the geniuses who read the news (and in one case, his oblivious wife). I realize that this story is partly tongue in cheek, congratulating the "short bus" crew on finally getting with the times. But it's an understatement of monumental proportions.
TEETH!
Just thought I'd throw that out there...
