Pioneer's KURO PDP-5020FD plasma reviewed, not as flawless as previously assumed
Now that you've seen what the Pro-111FD can do, how's about a closer look at the PDP-5020FD? A member of Pioneer's second-generation KURO plasma family, this display was held in high regards from day one, although a recent CNET review explains that may it have received a bit too much credit. Yeah, it did produce the deepest blacks reviewers had ever seen on a big-screen display, and color decoding was also pleasantly accurate. The port selection was praised alongside the gorgeous anti-reflective screen, but surprisingly, not all was well. For starters, Pioneer is charging a small fortune for this thing, thus every flaw is understandably magnified. Critics found that primary colors were "inaccurate," and they seemed to lament the omission of advanced picture controls. In the end, the unit still received an "Excellent" badge, but it's hard to say this one is totally worthy of the sky-high price tag.

This 'High-End' plasma is no more expensive than the 'High-End' LCD's. Only difference is, it performs better than said 'High-End' LCD's... How can you go wrong?
Same price? According to their price finder thing, I see the 50 kuro for about $2900, and the 52 inch samsung lcd reference for about $2200.
Pioneer says that the second generation Kuros have "5 times blacker blacks" than the first generation Kuros.
I am very happy with my PDP-6010FD. I cannot imagine 5 time better contrast ratio!!! I am jealous!
My Kuro takes XBR shits.
Did you guys even read the article?
They spent two sentences analyzing color, and they neither gave measurements nor compared it to the predecessor. Instead, they compared it to the elite model and noted that it wasn't as good. Was there an improvement over last years' model? We'll never know.
By the way, the 5020 is the successor to the 5010, not the 5080. The 5090 replaces the 5080.
Why buy a Samsung when you can buy a Panasonic? Samsung's red levels are too high!
Looks like the Panasonic TH-50PZ800 received a better review than this Pioneer with highly accurate colors!

Everyone is worried about the accuracy of blacks but what about the accuracy of all the other colors?
I replaced a 50" LCD rear projection with a 5020. It was liking going HD all over again.
Did the reviewer used the "movie" mode on the 5020? I measured my 5020 in movie mode and the colour points (RGBCMY) for REC709 standard is pretty much bang-on.
The colour points he's using seems to be coming from the Optimum mode which is, although very pleasing to the eye, fluctuates depending on the content.
any thoughts on comparing the Pioneer PDP-5020FD and the Pioneer PRO110FD?
