AT&T finally breaks the half million mark with U-verse customers
AT&T's U-verse still isn't a clear cut winner in the world of HD carriers, but it sure got a lot more attractive with the recent rollout of 2 HD / 2SD -- which enabled users to record one high-def program while watching another (or record two HD shows simultaneously). During Q2 2008, the company managed to pick up 170,000 new U-verse subscribers (versus 148,000 in Q1 2008), and since it closed 2007 with 231,000, it has more than doubled its customer base (549,000) in half a year. At its current rate, it'll be tight to make its goal of one million subscribers by the end of 2008, but it might just get there. Can't say our faith was nearly as high just six months prior.

I'm so sick of seeing U-verse related posts on this site.
I would sign up to get away from Comcast. They are laying the cables now about 2 miles away from my house, its a pain to watch them move so slowly.
My neighborhood got the fiber and the VRAD box over 2 months ago and they still haven't made U-Verse available.
Sorry, but I can't support a service where half the users say their HD quality is worse than with another provider (based on an uverseusers.com poll). Considering most people don't normally see HD problems, that is a terrible showing.
Those voters must not have been former TWC customers! My move to U-verse was soooo sweet with a much better picture (and audio). And actual HD channels to watch! I'm in heaven. I do miss HDTheater, though. at&t got the Car-HDTheater instead of the Nature-HDTheater. Not so compelling. Cars that were considered weenie when I was a kid selling for $60,000 is more than I can take. I'll have to check out this so-called poll to see what's what.
Ewe, a Bose 321 GS system!
I had dish network and uverse became available in my area about two months ago. First month is free, so I decided to A/B the two.
I don't want to get into specifics, but running through my 720p Panasonic plasma TV, (which was/is considered the best plasma TV by consumer reports) there is a significant difference in quality between Uverse and Dish.
I am not partial to Dish (I really don't want the dishes on my house, and I don't think their customer service is very good), but there is simply no comparison in picture quality. Seriously, there is what I would subjectively say is a 35% quality drop off.
I asked the uverse installer to tell me why there was such a drop off. He said, and I quote "I had not seen the two services compared before, do you want to cancel right now, or just use it for a month?" He was apologetic and called his boss to see if there was anything that could be causing this aside from the quality in service, but his boss said no, that there was simply a difference.
I don't even know what to say further to impress what I view as a significant objective quality difference. If anyone who is a big Uverse supporter would like to rebut these claims, please let me know. I guess there is a chance that something is wrong with my feed, but I'd like to know since Uverse is cheaper and doesn't use unsightly dishes.
I use AT&T for everything else that they provide, but I simply have to stick with Dish on their TV service.
