Anyone even remotely familiar with
Meridian will understand that it caters to the affluent sect. Anyone even considering disputing that fact need look no further than the recently unveiled 810 Reference Video System. This monstrous projector boasts ten full megapixels of resolution, a native 4,096 x 2,400 resolution, 3-chip D-ILA module, PKI Xenon light, 10,000:1 contrast ratio, 4,000 lumens and a video processing box created by Marvell. Slated to ship in Q3, the PJ comes packaged with a long, short or medium-throw lens as well as a "motorized 2.35:1 anamorphic lens assembly for fixed height ultra-wide screen installations." Each unit also comes bundled with the 810 Reference Video Scaler "which connects to the projector with four parallel DVI-D cables, each carrying one quadrant of the image." Early reports suggest that even with all the fancy hardware, the $185,000 asking price may still be a bit high, so make sure you give this one a serious look before committing.

This is why we need sub $100 BD players. That way we can afford to buy this projector.
Well, it is cheaper that the house we are trying to buy...
Seriously, a good BD player and scaler (included), this projector, and a BIG screen in a dedicated HT, and you will probably be one happy camper.
I would have expected the vertical resolution to be 2160 (double 1080), but I am sure the scaler can take care of things, and having the anamorphic lens takes care of things.
Sony's pro cinema 4k projectors (same resolution) are under $100k, but no scaler or lens system.
That said, if I had the money, I would be all over it!
While I like my high end gear (looking to get the new Marantz AV8003 and Bryston amps), but there is a point where it is just a rip off. A product like this is not needed, it is well beyond the point of diminishing returns and is more status quo than anything.

Meridian is having a shindig showing off this projector tonight at the Intercontinental hotel in Downtown Miami along with their $65k speakers. Free booze and food.
It’s expensive, but it’s quiet, sharp, and the scaler really fills in where the source is missing. A very compelling combination - and a great use of this technology. If you have the money . . . you owe it to yourself to consider it!
