Panasonic's Blu-ray SC-BT100 HTIB system gets reviewed
Make no mistake about it, Panasonic's SC-BT100 is pretty intriguing for those looking to dive head first into the Blu-ray / surround sound game simultaneously. Boasting a 5.1 speaker system along with the DMP-BD50 standalone Blu-ray player, Panny's BD HTIB has a lot going for it on paper. Design wise, reviewers found lots to love, and they also admired the plethora of connection options and simplicity of use. Unsurprisingly, the picture quality was coined "phenomenal," but we wouldn't expect anything less from the BD50. The only real digs on the entire system are the steep price and the lackluster audio quality; highs were said to be "too harsh," and the overall quality was so far below par that it prevented critics at Pocket-lint from offering up a wholehearted recommendation. Maybe your ears will feel differently, though.

I don't understand how this system works. Are those powered speakers, or is it maybe one of those deals where there is an amp in the sub that drives the speakers?
The subwoofer is the same one Panasonic uses on its $300 HTIB (6.5" woofer with a 'customer facing' 10" passive radiator). All speakers are plugged into and powered by the receiver/BD unit.
For a HTIB, it sounds OK, but for $1000 USD, you could buy a $400 BD player or PS3, and have $600 left over for a receiver and speakers (for example, one of the Onkyo or Yamaha HTIB systems with a REAL receiver, powered sub, and decent speakers).
Not a good value.
So this is an integrated player/amp? Are there speaker binding terminals on the back of this thing?
I'd be tempted to buy an HT system if I thought it was value for money. I just don't see any value here though. Like has been said you could buy a PS3 and separates and make a better system than this for the price.
It's not a 5.1 system, it's a 3.1, with optional wireless rear speakers. I hope no-one takes these systems seriously on this site, any htib from Sony/Panasonic/Pioneer isn't worth it's weight in mud.
I stopped reading at this point:
"The system blasts out a healthy 1000W of audio power..."
This is obviously not a credible review, but a spec regurgitation. Truthfully, the pictures are stock images, and he doesn't say much - did he even review it, or just write a review based on the specs!?
Oh, and the Brits get scr3wed. The US version of this system DOES come with one wireless module and two rear speakers.
