Craigslist ad hints at U-verse in Raleigh / Durham, NC
Just over a year ago, we heard that AT&T would be sinking hundreds of millions of dollars into the Carolinas in an attempt to "upgrade its fiber network, further broadband deployment, and deliver internet-based technologies to customers in North Carolina and South Carolina." Now, we're beginning to see signs of life. According to this nondescript job posting on Craigslist, AT&T is scouting residential field agents specifically for U-verse in the Raleigh / Durham, NC region. Sure, this could very well be a hoax of some strange kind, but we can't possibly be more hopeful that it's not. Hey TWC -- is this enough to get you to add a few HD channels to your absolutely abysmal selection in the Triangle?

If it's genuine (and I doubt it) then presumably illiteracy won't be an issue to any applicant (whoever posted the ad can't even spell "field"!).
I see it differently than Monkey. If you apply for the job and you don't see the typo, then you are indeed dumb enough to work for AT&T installing their FIOS-lite, while unable to make a clear un-dropped call back to the main office to ask questions about how to do your job, due to the terrible reception from your AT&T wireless phone.
I'm so glad I don't live in an SBC (Yes, AT&T is a name, SBC are the real goons behind it) area.
But maybe, just maybe it will cause TWC to push up those terrible upload speeds. Come on!
384Kbps upload is appalling. 512Kbps is not even worth the upgrade to their Turbo charged tier.
Don't see how it would affect much. We already have AT&T DSL all over the area. Embarq is more likely to push TWC speeds. Embarq is the only one that has faster plans than AT&T. But I agree, the downstream isn't too bad, but the upstream does suck.
Thx for posting my tip. Attempts to determine whether ATT U-Verse is available in my area via the ATT-U-Verse site continue to yield no results.... i'll post again when this changes

Sweet, hope this is true like has already been said -- simply to push TWC! What determines what HD lineup TWC gives to a given area?
Too late, I got DirecTV a month ago. Now I can finally enjoy HD.
Oh, and did I mention that since then, with trying to keep Road Runner, TWC has completely screwed up EVERYTHING with my billing and service? I called at the end of last month to cancel TV, it didn't get cancelled until the 11th, at which point they disconnected my Road Runner too after I specifically told them they couldn't unhook the line outside because I was keeping RR. Now my bill said $260 something, and when I called to check on it, I got put on hold about 5 times, and was told they were going to have a supervisor look at my bill and call me Monday.
I hate Time Warner.
May be true, I have notices a bunch of fiber rolls and AT&T trucks around, especially near me on Buffaloe Rd
There might be some truth to this. On Aug 28th the Triangle Business Journal reported that Uverse is going live in the Jacksonville area. A good test market to start with before going into the larger markets like Charlotte and Raleigh/Durham.

U-Verse is heading to Raleigh!!!. I pulled into my neighborhood after work yesterday (10/21/08) and noticed two AT&T trucks. I pulled over and asked if what they were doing had anything to do with U-Verse. They said that was exactly what they were doing. They could not give an exact date for when it goes live, but it is certainly less a year from now. Two months? 11 months? We shall see.
