Poll: Are you intentionally delaying an HDTV purchase?

The percentage of sales people that recommend Samsung HDTVs.
Salespeople are also becoming less likely to recommend LCD sets over plasma sets, which goes against the industry trend.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Where's the option just to say, "No."
Quite. Mind you, on an HD blog I'd expect the number of Nos to be disproportionately low, but still. The economy's in the crapper, even sale-price HDTVs are going to be a little too much for most people right now.
Or simply "no" to the fact that many of us already own HDTVs since they are the norm at this point. I'm just out of college and I already have two simply because it's all you can buy now.
Agreed, it's not like you can buy a non-HDTV anymore. When can we drop the HD part and just start calling them TVs again?
I'm trying to resist for the moment. Must resist a new HD TV.... Even though I want one now.
I'm saving up for a 60" 2nd Generation Kuro. I have about $2.37 saved, and I have about $5,437.63 to go.
I really want a new HDTV, but I am waiting for a Tru2Way equiped TV before I go get a new one.
I have a 60" 1st Gen Kuro PDP-6010FD & an Optoma HD-81 1080p Projector. I would like a new Pioneer Elite Kuro - but I bought my 60" in April.
I do however want to get a Sony XBR LED backlit LCD for my master bedroom. Maybe if they have some real deals, I'll squeeze the trigger. Of course, there is one thing that can put a kibosh on that.... Kids.
I have a 24" dell LCD that i use as a computer and for watching TVs and movies.
But it doesn't have HDMI. So.... my plan is to wait until my grant comes in and by one of the new dells (either 24 ro 27) that has hdmi and swap out the one i have at home.
what i really want is a mac mini that plays blu-ray and HDCP-DVI
I have an eight-year-old Panasonic 27-inch CRT TV and haven't yet found a reason to throw it out. My cable company swears I'll get a perfectly decent compatible signal for at least a few more years. So there's no poll option for me either -- not buying until this set stops working.
I'm somewhere in the middle because I'm waiting, but I'm waiting only another week. I'm waiting until after I into the dorm, and I'm getting it after I'm all unpacked. 32 incher for me - can't wait to get it!
Don't forget to install a Slingbox at home before you move.
Speaking of which, I'm far out of college but I wouldn't mind seeing a post dedicated to suggestions for what people should be buying to make college enjoyable. Popcorn Hour? Game system? Encarta CD-Rom, circa 1992?
I'm not talking specific things like, "Which is the best streaming device" but a complete package solution of "this tv to display your content, this system for receiving your content, and these things that you may never have considered but that will make your life easier for these reasons..." Here, I'll start: Bring a handcart because carrying stuff to your room sucks something fierce even if it just the walk from the car to dorm. Don't anticipate they'll have one for you to use because you are not alone on move-in day and those dorm provided ones run out fast.
I don't want to buy a ne tv because NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING is as good as my Sony XS955 30" widescreen HDTV! NOTHING can compare!
The ONLY bad things is that its heavy but why do I care? It just sits there and shows me a beautiful pic!!!!!!!!!
All you idiots out there spending money on inferior products are freaking stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have you SEEN tv on a LCD lately? It SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For example....the NBC Olympic logo in the upper right of the screen showing right now. ON my tv, its beautiful....high detail bright...I was in CC the other day and they had a over the air signal goin to all the tvs. This logo looked terrible!!!!!!! I could BARELY make out the edges...the colros were mixed a little together and surround ALL text on the ENTIRED tv was mosquito noise! Its around EVERY little bit of text. There is NO high detail ANYWHERE On ANY TV!!
LCD tech just plain SUCKS for television viewing. There are several problems....the quality of the signal the tv gets....the limit of WHAT and HOW MUCH information the tv can display..mosquito noise is created because the tv DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH INFORMATION TO DISPLAY THOSE PIXELS CORRECTLY!!!!!! This is PARTLY the tvs fault. (am I right on that one?, I think so)
WHY ON WHY do people continue to pay good dollars for inferior product???????? Tvs aren't better than they were 5 years ago....they are thinner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YES, tube suck because of space. btu there is NO WAY IN HELL ANY COMPANY can convince me to spend 3000 on a top of the line LCD tv tht is in NO WAY better and FAR INFERIOR to my CRT HDTV!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, its the only thing out there and Yes there are times when it fitws what you need....BUT for your main movie, digital tv, hdtv viewing machine....IM BEGGING.....PLEASE STOP BUYING THIS F'ing CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes...they lok better...Yes the tech is improving....but LOOK at the tech....IT SUCKS!!!!!! Dynamic contrast? What Dic Fuhck cam up with that?????????? Its a SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our tvs contrast ration sucks.....we are at the limit of what lcd can do.....let give thenm some BS so they will continue to buy our crappy tvs!!!!!!!!
I'm so sorry im bitchin....but people....look at the tech....why do you accept it? Because its the only thing out there???? I bet most of you will say yes to this question....but you're wrong!!!!!!!!! It WASN'T the only thing out there.....You made it that way because you started buying it.... OK I get it...but now you're educated.....STOP BUYING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AM I wrong....is the tech better? please besides weight and thinness....PLEASE tell me why you accept these crappy tvs.... PLEASE EXPLAIN IT TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!
um, i dont know what the hell you are looking at but my 32' samsung series 5 1080p tv looks amazing. maybe all that mosquito noise and crap was caused by...GASP... A WEAK SIGNAL??????? OTA sucks, thats why most people have cable/satellite. LCD tech doesnt suck, and the best picture i have seen on ANY tv was on a samsung LCD. im not against CRT at all, and cant wait for SED to come out, but LCD has tremendous potential and is a very good tech.
IM BEGGING.....PLEASE STOP TYPING THIS F'ing CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so sorry im bitchin....but people....look at the post....why do you accept it? Because its the only thing out there???? I bet most of you will say yes to this question....but you're wrong!!!!!!!!! It WASN'T the only thing out there.....You made it that way because you started accepting it.... OK I get it...but now you're educated.....STOP ACCEPTING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE tell me why you type these crappy posts.... PLEASE EXPLAIN IT TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought a 50 inch Kuro last October. I'm still paying that set off. No new TV for me for a long time.
I'm not trying to delay the purchase of a HDTV, I'm just waiting until I can afford it. It's not like there is so much content to watch during the summer anyways.
Hey Byrd....are you serious? You think mosquito noise is cause by a weak signal? I'm not doubting that your tv looks great. What I am saying is that LCD tech as a tech for everyday viewing of tv signals(any kind) is NOT great!!! I don't care how the tv gets its "signal". It doesn't matter whether its dtv or cable or ota. THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE QUALITY AT THIS TIME...is OTA. Do you think your DTV provider is sending you the exact same signal as your local network station? NO Fing way!! Its way more compressed. If you don't know that, then you need to sop commenting on things you DON'T KNOW!
Again , please someone, correct me if I'm wrong..I don't know everything, but I do know a few things!
OTA does not suck. Getting a good strong signal is a different story. I'm not commenting on whether you can get a signal...I'm commenting on the quality of it if you get it.
If you think the best quality pic youve ever seen was on a lcd tv, you have terrible eyes. That isn't an opinion, it's a fact. Do you know the technology behind lcd monitors? Do you realize what contrast ratio is and why it's important? Do you know that lcd tech cannot come close to that of a crt tube? I don't care WHAT tech is out there, it NOWHERE as close to that of a crt tube!
Now beauty is in the eye of the beholder so if it looks good to you, great!! BUT don't be ignorant and think that if it looks good, it must be better because it is NOT!
LCD tech is great for computers because mostly, those are non moving images. crt is basically the speed of light so you cannot see any "ghosting" effect because there basically is none. Not so with LCD tech correct? Ever heard of refresh rate???? Yes, they are getting better, but nowhere close to that of a crt and never will be, IT CAN'T BE!!!!!!!
How is lcd better tech, so much so that they can justify spending $1000's of dollars?
How can they justify to price for crappy contrast ratio?? Crappy refresh rates? Not to mention life span, although ive seen many crts go out before their time more likely due to manufacturing than to the tech itself.
What I'm saying is that the world is going LCD crazy! LCD is ok, in some situations, I agree. But like I said before, it is NEVER going to be HDTV quality tv or movie viewing because the tech just isn't up to snuff!
You have to seperate your opinion and your bad eyes from the technology. I am not stating things I see, I'm stating specs and the tech behind it all.
Am I wrong? Are my specs wrong? Someone please tell me with facts how LCD tech is better for the consumer! Other than thickness or thinness and maybe weight..and maybe size of screen....HOW is this really a better technology?????????
Wht are you spending your hard earned dollars on crappy tech? Save it....wait for something really truly worth it!
Don't worry about the Jones's...F em!
