Toshiba almost had to mess up its thirty-seven hundred dollar lynx coat, at the thought of seeing its
HD DVD walking in the rain with some alley-cat-coat wearing hush-puppy-shoe-wearin' Taiwanese crumb cake. According to China's
Economic Daily News, some Taiwanese manufacturers apparently sought to buy out the company's blue laser patents and use them negotiate a reduction in the cost of Blu-ray licenses. Whatever the master plan was, it's all for naught since Toshiba's not keen on giving up its licenses, which
EDN sees as related to the upcoming
China Blue High Definition discs still set to roll out based on HD DVD. HD DVD without Toshiba is like corn flakes without the milk, so it's unlikely we'll ever see it with anyone else, Tosh's own
XDE dalliances notwithstanding.
Whoever you are... you are brilliant!!! You were able to blend the world of electronics with my world of music...when music was music.
Now that's top notch journalism. Enlightening technical content and lyrics from the classic hit "The Rain" by Oran Juice Jones. This is why I Love Engadget!!!!
This article is hilarious. I wish HD-DVD would've made it though. Truly a shame.
Toshiba is just teasing the likes of Nfinity and TruthTeller with the remote possibility that HD DVD might comeback. :P
On the other hand there might still be some IP left in the patents they don't want to let go?
HD DVD might come back??? :)
I would rather have kept my $100 HD DVD player and still gotten Universal and Paramont HD movies then wait for bd to lower its prices.
As I wait for infinity to post more info on the spurs engine.. i have to point out I have watched some HD movies from the cable company and am starting to think HD VOD might be the future.
Maybe Toshiba knows that eventually they'll need those patents for their own blu ray player so why sell them? It would be weird if its for CBHD because I thought the whole point of the format was not to be paying money on foreign patents.
wow, two things i hate...toshiba and chinese businesses.
low rank me if you want, but toshiba is just being a hard ass w/ this dvd xd shit, and that pisses me off. Rather than fooling people into buying pseudo hd players, why not make your own, use your HUGE infrastructure to develop tech to bring the costs of manufacturing way down, then price the competitors out.
China...well, they can give two shits about any companies intellectual property. and that really pisses me off. people spend, tens/hundreds of thousands, or millions of dollars to research and design products, and they have jackass companies who copy products to the T. sorry but that irks me.
They should sell them to the p0rn industry and to China. I'm certainly not buying another Toshiba product after they proved they were quitters and abandoned their HD DVD cowsumers.
HAHA! You said "cowsumer" again! Like you did in the previous comments you made! That's clever and witty. You sure are a smart fellow for thinking that one up! Hahaha!
This article deserves a comment for "The Juice" reference alone!
