This is a door probably meant for an interior, or partition, wall. Typically if this is a track home, or even a common custom home, the interior walls are not insulated in the first place. So, you sound proof a door and not the walls holding it up. Brilliant!
Basically yeah. Why even bother with the door when with most of todays low construction standards the noise is just as likely coming thru the walls. Some people much have way too much money and nothing to spend it on perhaps.
I'm sure the home owner who is buying a 2000 dollar sound proof door, also thought to sound proof the rest of the room.
What for? Maybe leave the windows opened so you can hear all the traffic and construction work going on in your hood. Or, perhaps the door is designed to block the screams of kids and family members visiting from out of town.
Well as someone who is very hard of hearing and doesn't want to wake the wife when I'm watching porn at 2 am I am ordering one now!
