Best Buy employees compare real store to Chuck's 'Buy More'
We know, it's off the beaten path a bit, but Sound & Vision's latest writeup comparing the actual Best Buy with 'Buy More' in NBC's quasi-hit Chuck was too good to ignore. The site rounded up a couple of Best Buy / Geek Squad employees and asked them to compare their experiences with scenes in the show. Comically enough, we learn that at least some Squaders do indeed joyride in their company car, employees actually do have to undergo training to interact with and persuade customers, and yes, workers are beaten over the head with selling those ridiculous replacement plans. If you're in need of a chuckle (ahem), there's quite a few waiting in the read link.

seriously...this is news? i guess people that work in restaurants can relate in some ways to "waiting", anyone thats worked at an electronics/audio video store can relate to "the 40 yr old virgin" and anyone whos ever worked at a costco/sams club can relate to "employee of the month"...
Who said this was news, idiot? Newsflash: this is a blog, not CNN!
Don't like semi-interesting tidbits like this? Get the fuck out!
Ugh I hate BB. But since CompUSA closed I am "forced" to do my local geek shopping at BB now.
Um. You arent "forced" to do anything. Its called newegg.com or one of the many MANY online stores out there.
if anything BB has better deals then compusa(they were too overpriced), i think there was a reason why compusa went out of business
Sadly there is no sandwhich shop near my local BB.
But there is one in my local Fry's.
Yeah... I work there and can't argue any of that.
Fry's is WAY worse the BB!
@burl
Are you kidding me? Is that a serious answer?
If there's one specific Best Buy that inspired Chuck's "Buy More," it's probably the one near where I live--it's the one closest to Echo Park (where Chuck lives), it's got a Costco a hundred yards away, and there's a sandwich shop across the way.
Interesting article, but that first story about the speeding ticket is obviously bullshit.
Lame. I asked during my interviews @ circuitcity if it would be like "40 Year Old Virgin". Those were the good days.
whoever said that all Geek Squad agents get a company car is a moron - only the in-home agents (Double Agents) get those - which is maybe 2 or 3 per store. Also, I think the same girl said that they threaten to fire you if you don't sell -- Lie - I've never heard that before. They might cut your hours but they wouldn't come right out and tell you you'll be fired if you don't sell X amount. And the PSP/PRP are not "warranties". Maybe they should've interviewed someone that actually works for Best Buy!
