The Samsung MediaLive Digital Media Adapter gets a date

We hate to admit it, but the longer we have to wait for something, the more anxious we get. So it should be no surprise that after nine months, we can't wait to check out Samsung's new Media Center Extender. We got word last week that the little guy was available for pre-order on Best Buy, but the lack of expected release date left us hanging. Now Amazon also has it available for pre-order, but this time with a release date of October 15th. That leaves just over two weeks before we can all find out if this thing is all it's cracked up to be -- you know, made to mount on the back of the latest Samsung TVs, and HDMI-CEC for seamless one remote operation.

I went to Best Buy and they looked up the Medialive adapter. They showed no date for warehouse inventory. The clerk said that meant that it might be another month or two. I preorder from Amazon (no tax or shipping) they gave a ship (after payment) of October 20th.

Recently picked up the Samsung MediaLive Digital Media Adapter and have been using it on my Samsung 46A650 television for about three days. Does a nice job playing multimedia content (pictures/mpeg video) directly from my computer via a wireless connection and the interface is top notch (uses Windows Media Center).

However, I'm very disapointed with the adapter's codec support. First off, it doesn't support flash - so forget about YouTube or .flv videos. Also, doesn't support a whole host of streaming video content (windows media, RayV, etc), which you discover when you try to play video through proprietary services offered through WMC. As for so called Netflix on-demand support....where is that? Using a third-party plugin for WMC, I was unable to get Netflix films to run.

Overall, this unit has lots of potential, but I certainly hope that future software updates will provide better codec support.

We purchased the Samsung MediaLive Digital Media Adapter from ABT Electronics. Hooked it up and although the computer could see the TV (Samsung pn50A650) and the TV could see the media player and screen said everything was set up properly, all attempts to use the MediaLive failed. After countless calls to Samsung, who were stumped at all levels, they offerred to send out a tech to service the TV, which has nothing wrong with it. We called ABT who were stumped as well and suggested that we return the MediaLive and they would send a new one in the event that it was defective. Hooked up the new one and had the same problems. Called Samsung several times and they listen to the whole story, walk through the set up process with us, agree that it should work and when it doesn't, we get disconnected! Did you have any problems with the initial set up?
