Sony gifts BDP-S350 with BD-Live via firmware update
Earlier this summer, Sony promised that it would be pushing out a firmware update in the future that would add BD-Live functionality to its BDP-S350 Blu-ray player. Fast forward a few months, and lo and behold, it has kept its word. Available right this very second, the version 010 firmware adds in BD-Live support and improved BD-Java compatibility / improved sensitivity to the Remote Commander signal while in standby mode. Hop on down to the read link and get that 56.23MB download going -- given Sony's typically slow (and by slow, we mean hosted over a 14.4k modem) servers, you could be waiting awhile.
[Thanks, Dan and Brendan]
Update: Seems as if the URL download has been pulled, though users are reporting that the Network Update directly through the player works fine.

Do you need a memory stick to enable BD-Live on this player?
The download page just suggests doing a Network Update, so it gets sucked in straight over the 'net.
What I mean is, does this player have the required 1GB of internal memory, or do you have put in a memory stick to enable BD Live?
Memory stick is required to make it Profile 2.0 compatible.
The player has no internal storage, you must add a usb stick. I used a Kingston 2GB on mine. Fits fine. There is a cute Sony-branded one as well.
Where is my Samsung BD-P1500 firmware!!!!!
That was promised a few months ago as well!
Maybe they will jump on board now that Sony has. Then again, once I have 2.0 ill pry use it one time to see what the hype is about then forget it ever exists.

14.4K modem? That's not nice. I'll have you know that Sony laid in a 2nd T1 line recently to handle the increased loads.
An additional 1.544 Mbits?!?! WOW! What an increase!!!
"Sony's typically slow (and by slow, we mean hosted over a 14.4k modem) servers"
I read that as "(and by slow, we mean bend-over 14.4k modem) servers"
I lol'D.
Can't be as slow as the load time for the BDP 300.
Speaking of which, the load time any better on the 350?
Friend owns one, load time is closer to the PS3 now, much faster than the 300. This is going at certain places for $299....the blu-ray invasion has begun. I am sure complaints of some type will follow hehe.
I hope it was just my experience that was an anomaly, but last weekend I played with this at Costco and navigating through the player's menu was slow. I mean, my PS3 that I've owned for almost a year was much faster.
I'm pretty sure Costco hasn't upgraded the firmware in their demo units.
If this means I can bitstream TrueHD and DTS-MA for $100 less than I paid for my PS3, that would be a good thing...if I could sneak it past the wife, but the big BLU front panel makes that unlikely.
I just updated my player, it took about 10 minutes total (download and firmware update).
As for the above questions:
The 350 is easily twice as fast as the 300.
It loads discs much more quickly, the only downside is that it doesn't have analogue 5.1 output.
Makes sense since they added it to the BDP 300 a couple weeks ago. I installed it on mine then and it's working great!
No way. That last part was a joke right? 14.4k modem?
I was going to download the update now but the "010" firmware isn't there anymore, just the "007".
Anyone know whats going on?
It appears Sony pulled it from their website. A newly discovered bug perhaps? Although I was able to download "010" I'm going to wait a bit until this is all ironed out before applying.
I can't download it too. :(
Sony has a poor history lately when it comes to firmware updates. I updated mine yesterday to 010 and everything seems to be fine, but the fact that they yanked the update from the website worries me .........
Looks like the 010 is back up on Sony's website.
