Fox gets with the program, reduces MSRP on some Blu-ray Discs
No matter what your current stance on Blu-ray is, one thing everyone can agree on is that the prices for discs have to come down. If you'll give Hollywood the benefit of the doubt for even a second, you can't blame them for starting disc prices high, in attempt to figure out what the market will bare. Luckily it didn't take long before the market leader woke up and realized that $40 for an older catalog title was just too much, as Warner lowered the initial price on many of its older titles to about $20. For whatever reason Fox has been the last to follow suit and if the more recent releases are any indication, even Fox is getting with the program now. The real win for consumers though, is that not only is the retail price of many older titles now $20, but the street price is coming in around $13. If this is any indication of the future of Blu, it combined with players that rival the price of upconverters, could easily carve out a solid market for Blu-ray in the future.Read - Blu-ray Stats News Log

I'd really think about buying some Blu-ray movies if the players got under the magical $200 mark for a Profile 2.0 player. I really don't want to buy a PS3 to get something that's future-proof.
Now we're talking. There are a number of Fox titles I've been sitting put on until prices came down. Now with a $13-$15 street price, the premium over the DVD isn't bad, and well worth it for what you get.
Now if they could just find it in their hearts to lower the price of the overpriced new movies, maybe people would buy them instead of then sitting on the Best Buy incaps.
We all knew this was coming. It HAS to happen for the format to thrive like DVDs did.
They need to get these stand alone players below $200 and all 2.0 complaint before the Christmas season really hits. They could make a killing.
The problem with these bargain bin Blu-Ray titles is they defeat the point of what Blu-Ray discs should contain. Most of these titles have just the movie with a moderate upgrade in video/audio quality, and no viable extras. You buy a Blu-Ray player to get the extra content that is available through BD-Live, as well as the storage increase of the disc media.
I buy Blu-Ray titles mostly for the extras. A Blu-Ray title that has just the movie, usually is just Netflixed, and returned. The movies I keep and own are the Transformers type. Where you have extras galore, and can relish in the film you can tolerate to watch over and over again.
this is more like it......
6 more month....a year at the most and BD movies SHOULD be in line with DVDs for the most part.......gotta love it.........
About freakin' time. $15 is about the most I'd realistically pay for a catalog release, unless it's uber-remastered like Blade Runner. That said, there are some year-old Fox releases that I'd love to pick up but are too spendy; "Juno" and "Live Free or Die Hard" are still commanding $28+ prices, even online. How about some fresh BOGO deals to move some more players this Christmas?
Finally. I'll never buy an older title for more than $20 and unless I don't love it I wouldn't pay more than $15 because I can probably get the DVD for about $4.
wow spend my money to get the exact same version that is on my DVD, and only slightly prettier....thanks Fox
