Hauppauge adds 5.1 support to the HD-PVR
One of the most exciting products of 2008 is the Hauppauge HD-PVR, because it enables you to record any HD source you want by exploiting the analog hole. The problem up until now has been that while you can already enjoy DirecTV HD on your SageTV setup in all its glory, you've had to settle for stereo audio. That is finally changing as Hauppauge as the latest beta driver now adds support Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3), and AAC to top it off. But even if surround sound isn't your thing, you may still want to check out this update as it also resolves a few other miscellaneous issues that might be bothering you.

So can i hook this thing up to my Comcast DVR ? and save crap on my PC .. I had a whole boat load of shows loaded up and then last night my comcrap DVR tried to record Locked up abroad 20 times and erased all my shows i had saved up
Although I don't own it, from reading specs and reviews, you should be able to. I'm highly considering getting one of these.
You definitely can do exactly that (I do).
To clarify, this will let you record ON your PC rather than on the concast DVD, not move stuff that is already recorded on the comcast dvr to your PC.
Of course it will let you record the stuff already on your DVR. Just press record on your computer and play on your DVR. And if you get something like BTV or Sage then you can use that as your tivo and it will change channels and record shows from them on straight to your pc.
w00t!
I just bought one of these, the Blu-ray recording to regular DVD plus the 5.1 Surround Sound sealed it for me.
Is there anyway to save shows directly in xvid format (without converting them later)? This is for a SD show.
A couple questions about this device:
1. Does with work with Vista Media Center?
2. If it does, can you record with VMC?
3. How much does it cost and where can I get it?
I'm searching for the right media streaming / HTPC set up for my house.
I have a basic schematic I can send to anyone who can offer any constructive advice.
Running two HD PVRs, 1 360, 1 Vista PC with DVI monitor.
I'm hoping to add another tv/monitor in the same room as the PC to watch while working out on the treadmill. If I can access my living room PVR or turn my PC into a PVR somehow (there's no cable input in the PC room).
Would also love to be able to access tv signal remotely without interfering with home users.
Am in Canada so no HULU here :(
Any advice would be amazing ! Thanks in advance !
