3D HD TV?
I imagine it'll have a handful of impressive titles when it really gets going.
But.
It'll be a tiny minority compared to the total number of movies I have and that are out there that I want.
So I'll be far more interested in the general & ordinary playback/display abilities of the TV, no matter how good it is at 3D.
So if viewing angles are rubbish or colours look bad or motion looks unnatural off-centre etc etc then sorry, there's absolutely no chance of a sale here.
If it really does work then it'll be a nice little extra feature - but it won't be anything I'm interested in paying a significant premium for (and I imagine I'm far from alone in that, which is why I suspect it's not really going to take off, again).
I'm agreeing with you. I'm not at all excited by living-room 3D at the moment - all the current technologies require either silly glasses or restricted viewing angles, neither of which are good for my living room.
3D gaming on PCs is another matter...

Ever since I saw "Michael Jackson in 3D" at Disneyland I've been waiting to have some 3D action at home. I honestly wouldn't mind the glasses if it were only once in a while.

Okay, I've posted this twice before but it seems to keep getting removed by the system, probably because I was embedding an Amazon link. So I'll post it again without the link.
The exact type of IMAX 3D, LCD-flipping technology has been available to the home for almost 10 years! It never took off because, quite frankly, the selection of movies for it stinks to high heaven. So, this is absolutely nothing new. And quite frankly I don't have a problem with red/blue anaglyph as long as the colors on the TV are set properly. (I know a lot of people do, so I'm going to push for that.)
Anyway, go to Amazon and do a search for "H3D Viewing System". This is NOT new technology for the home.
Correction: "So I'm NOT going to push for it [red/blue anaglyph]." Sorry. Don't want to appear to be some kind of sadist. That's what I get for typing too quickly. :)
That technology only works on CRTs. I suspect the quality issue is why people didn't care about 3D at that time.
Not that I care about 3D, but I can see people seeing it as something desirable only once they've invested in a nice big widescreen flat panel with a picture that looks like a window.
I wouldn't mind seeing 3D display technology as well as consumer digital 3D still and video cameras - that would be cool.
gah, I'm yet to be impressed by digital 3D Cinema, let alone developments for the home. Gimmicks can't make up for poor story telling.
