Integra ships $600 DBS-6.9 Profile 1.1 Blu-ray player

It's quite curious that Integra chose to showcase its DBS-6.9 Blu-ray player at CEDIA prior to making any official announcement, but those looking for the formal verbiage can finally put their mind at ease. A year after introducing its first HD DVD player, the company is proudly rolling out its first BD deck, which offers up 1080p24 video, bitstream output of the latest high-resolution audio codecs, an HDMI 1.3a output, front panel SD card slot, BonusView support (read: Profile 1.1) and compatibility with DivX / MP3 discs as well. Sure, it's entirely overpriced at $600, but if you bet good money on Seth Petruzelli over the weekend, what's it to you?

this player is nothing compare to the DHS-8.8 HD DVD player, still
missing 5.1 or 7.1 analog audio output and is not even profile 2.0 and no REON chip.

Yeah, I'm not understanding this one. Given the overlap with the key features of HD DVD and Blu-ray, I'm surprised they're not taking their old HD DVD design, swapping over the drive, and changing the firmware. The audio and video decoding hardware should be identical.

Is it possible that both their HD DVD players and Blu-ray players are just rebadged models made by someone else, eg their HD DVD was a rebadged Toshiba, and this is a rebadged Panasonic or Sony?

As said above; no analog, no BD-Live, no Reon...

And here's a news flash in case nobody else catches it; this is another Funai player. The display is identical to that of the Funai triplets (Magnavox/Sylvania/Insignia) and the A/V ports are identically positioned as well.

$229 > $600

Ridiculous.

Ouch, it does look a Funai although in fairness it looks closer to the Philips BDP7200 than to the Sylvania / Magnavox brands. Funai are the OEM for all of them but the cheaper models don't have the 5.1 analogue or optical outputs. Still a lot of money though for a badge and new case when the BDP7200 can be had for $300.

It's not the first time either for Onkyo to rebadge a player and slap a huge premium on it. Their DV-HD805 player was a rebadged HD-XA2, both of which were OEM'd by a company called Alco.

Hmm, just looked at the back again on the Integra and it has the optical but only stereo analogue. So its even less specced than the Philips model. What the hell?

If Alco built the XA2/805, then kudos to Alco. The XA2 is the the best built piece of electronics I have ever owned. Not one corner was cut.

And the BDP7200 makes quadruplet of the Funai triplets. It only adds analog.

Naw, it won't be a complete fail because custom installers will use this one for unsuspecting buyers who just want a "system." I'm sure the markup is sweet, considering this thing is selling for under $300 everywhere else. Although I can't see any individual buying this that has half a brain.
