While I (as I've said before, so let's not dwell on it) don't think BD has much of a future as a movie distribution system, I think it has real potential for data storage in the medium term, especially if the multilayer technologies that are being demoed are made viable. More BD readers = more infrastructure ready for use for when writers and media prices come down in price.
