World's largest LED screen coming to Dubai
By this point, you should fully understand that "Dubai" and "world's largest" go hand-in-hand, so it's quite fitting that said city is receiving the planet's most humongous LED screen. Designed by UAE development company Tameer Holding, the 33-story high display will reportedly be "embedded on an intended commercial tower in the Majan district of Dubailand," where it will stand tall and blast out advertisements to onlookers some 1.5-kilometers away. Dubbed Podium, the building will also house 33 levels of "premium commercial office space, two floors dedicated to retail and four floors for parking." There's no word on when the project will be completed, but we don't suspect Tameer will be dragging its feet in getting this up.

That's just... that's...
*head explodes*
Thats going to be one HUGE electric BILL!!!!!!!
Plus alot of accidents!
If it's anything like the other Dubai projects -and I'm sure it is- they don't care how much it costs, they just want it yesterday.
poor neighbours...
so while the rest of the world is in a financial crisis, Dubai is living it up? nice. Even if the world does collapse, at least theres another whole world off their shore.
If Dubai was falling apart though and the US didn't send help, everyone would bitch at the US and say we are all greedy...other way around, and people don't seem to care. >_>
so how many nanoseconds after Dubai runs out of oil will this turn into the world's largest urban blight?
Exactly 0.0001 seconds later, everyone will jump into the Gulf.
Only about 17% of Dubai's GDP is from oil. The rest is from their innovations in just about everything. Plus, being a Muslim country, they do not solely base their economy on our fiat type money system with the Fed.
Their GDP is mostly Real Estate, Trading and Financial, in that order. They knew they were going to run out of oil so they diversified by investing in their countries real estate big time and offering tax-free zones for high tech industries. Of course, they had all that money to blow in the first place because of their oil.
Think about how great it will be when someone hacks in and posts an "inappropriate" advert. Talk about worlds largest "Will you Marry Me" proposal!
Dubai's buildings are going to be screwed once impoverished arabs find out THIS is where all that oil money is going!
Can't wait to see if you could see ads on this building from Outer Space :)
Is Dubai hated? I mean people hate how America is so superficial right? Well... nothing spells superficial like a 33-story LED Billboard. Yea it's great for gadget innovation and to say it can be done, but really?
I just think it's funny that people build these. Here in Boston we had a huge display that burned out and everyone started cheering. The company never fixed it because people hate the large displays so much.
You guys surprised? They're building an 82 billion dollar airport... Nothing they do surprises me anymore. Nothing.
And I thought the KC Royals had a screen addiction…
