Of late, it's been
DirecTV doing all the dishing of HD locals, but at long last, we've got its biggest, most bitter rival stepping to the plate and doing some damage, too. As it's
fall HD locals rollout continues, DISH Network has gone live with 'em in a bevy of new places. We're talking Florence / Myrtle Beach, SC, Fort Myers / Naples, FL, Greenville / New Bern / Washington, NC, Madison, WI and Wilkes Barre / Scranton, PA. As it stands, the satcaster now offers locals in high-def in 70 markets reaching 71% of the US, but really, all that matters is if you're in that 71%, right?
Yeah...Indianapolis, the other 29%. Dish had HD locals uplinked back in 2006 but were then taken down. What the heck is taking so long?
Hey Adam, I'm right here in central Indiana living the "other 29%" lifestyle with you!
Me too. I really wanted the Dish DVR but I just couldn't justify it without HD locals. I ended up going with DirecTV.
I have tried to find out why indianapolis can't get local hd for dish network. does anyone know what dictates getting local hd.
tired of sd locals in bloomington
Add Las Vegas to that 29%
Same here
:(
I'd like to see 100% of the HD locals here around West Palm Beach. We're still missing CBS and PBS, despite "all" the locals supposedly being made available some months ago.
We actually have rather a lot of ATSC channels (mostly SD) in this area that Dish doesn't pass on at all (SD or HD), including our affiliates for CW and that cheap-ass Fox subsidiary "My Network". But it's CBS and PBS in HD I'm bothered about.
With all the launches that Dish has done this year, there is NOTHING new in the West. I live in Tucson, AZ, the 52nd largest city in the country. You would think we would be included in the 71% that have HD locals, but Dish has only been adding stuff east of the Mississippi River more or less. Come on Dish!
I'm in the Madison, WI market, but see no such HD locals.....
Hey Dan
The reason that you aren't able to view the Madison, WI locals yet is probably due to the fact that they are located on Eastern Arc (61.5) and aren't visible to most subscribers without an extra "wing" being added to your existing dish. You should be able to contact your satellite installer or Dish directly to have a technician come add that on for you at no cost. I'm in the same boat and calling our satellite installer to make an appointment today. Hope that helps.
I'm in Madison, and just spoke with Dish Network. As of today, 10/18/08, the only local HD channel available thru DISH is Fox47. Others will be added "in the future" - no more info given. However, I cannot manage to receive it either.
I am in the same boat--Dish Network but no HD for NBC, ABC, CBS, or FOX in Madison WI. Let me know if you solve youir problem without paying more for your service.
When they want they take car of the west coast, Direct tv can do it why can't Dish Network?????????
no HD locals in central PA. all the markets around have HD locals
I'm from the Madison, WI area. I just called Dish and it costs $29 to redirect the Dish. Currently, only Fox is available, but more to follow.
Dish will be adding more HD locals before the end of the year. They will soon start to focus on the west coast. All hd locals are added on the east coast because of their new eastern arc. If you think about it now as it stands you should take your side with dish and be patient. Direct will not have the space on their satellites to add the HD content that dish will have once they convert people east of the mississippi to the eastern arc 61.5/72/77which will have all eastern HD locals. And the western arc 110/119/129 which will service the other HD locals. Direct is lossing their rights to their transponders on the 110 and 119 satellites. So the slimeline dish is no longer, they will have a new dish just hitting 99/101/103. Not enought capacity at those spots to service 100% hd locals which is dishes goal with the eastern and western arcs.
I live in Madison, WI and currently have all of the HD channels except for these new local channels (only Fox). My dish was just installed less than a month ago. I just spoke to Dish Network and they said it would cost $59.99 to alter the dish and receive these channels. I think it is pretty lame that these are not available with the current HD dish setup. I think it lacks foresight with the company and am highly disappointed with the fact that I pay for HD and cannot receive all of the channels.
I am in the same boat--Dish Network but no HD for NBC, ABC, CBS, or FOX in Madison WI. Let me know if you solve youir problem without paying more for your service.
I live in Madison, WI, and just scheduled an appt. for a tech to come out. They have to install a second dish on the roof that points to a different location to get FoxHD and other future HD locals. I was told it would be $59.99 OR Free w/ a new 24 month commitment. I complained for a while and got them to waive the fee w/out the commitment. Kind of a pain, but that's the lowdown.
Latest Charlie Chat said Indy HD locals would be "early 2009". I'm hopeful, but not holding my breath. Would like to know if I'm going to have to add another dish on the roof.
