Hard to imagine them lowering the prices of the discs significantly for a very long time, as someone said here recently, if they are gong to have cheaper blu ray discs, what's the point of having a new product that is more expensive to produce in the first place? If they are going to compete with DVD on pricing, the studios might as well just stick with DVD. Substantially higher disc prices will always be a blu ray legacy.
