Been in a
Target lately? According to
VideoBusiness, since upping Blu-ray displays
back in May, the retailer's upped BD facings again, from 90 to 150 titles. With several Blu-ray standalone players on sale -- including the store-exclusive
Olevia box -- it looks like someone's feeling bullish about its potential. Reports also indicate some stores have installed a second Blu-ray demo area, with spokesman Joshua Thomas saying it is committed to creating a "fun, intuitive shopping environment", but we'd settle for a BOGO, or perhaps some more fully featured value-priced hardware before we officially add Target to the Friends of Blu list.
I believe they're going to make their bullseye logo blue, as well. ;-)
I was at a Target yesterday and checked out the BD section - it wasn't much larger than when they had both BD and HD DVD...
Yes, they're assigning one large area for Blu-ray. That's all dandy and sweet. But, their prices are not competitive at all. $30 for a movie I can get for $18 at Amazon is no brainer.
Yeah, prices are good enough to make me shop for BDs at Target. 30$ is a joke for a flick, period!
You guys keep forgetting one huge rule. The Average Consumer (Not those who post on Engadget) don't buy things from Amazon and buy at Target and Wal Mart. If you build it, they will buy. The consumer will buy, besides I started to see some movies being sold at Target for 19 dollars, I still think high, but people will buy.
a BOGO sale would be great right now. i think the BDA should really push for sales like that to help push Blu Ray in these times where money is tight.
