AT&T adds 30 new HD channels to U-verse TV at no charge
So much for kvetching over that $5 fee for three extra channels, huh? AT&T has come out of absolutely nowhere today to announce that some 30 new high-def channels will be offered gratis to U-verse TV customers beginning on November 3rd. Granted, what you see will depend on your programming package, but still, access to over 75 HD channels for $10 extra per month ain't too shabby. If that wasn't enough to get your juices flowin', the provider also announced that international programming packages for Chinese, Polish, Russian, French and European-sports audiences would be available for those that care to indulge at varying price points. Amazing what compression can do.
No additional compression will be necessary for this addition. U-verse only streams the channel(s) being watched over the connection to the customer.
This is an advantage for channel additions like this, but hurts when upgrading the number of simultaneous streams like the 2SD/2HD upgrade earlier this year.
booYAH!!!
Great news. Now I just need my Total Home DVR already!!
Here you go guys, MAJOR additions are the local sports HD, was missing all baseball season so thats a great add.

if U-verse would just come to the DC-metropolitan area, I'd ditch FIOS and switch instantly...
You most likely will never get a choice between FIOS and Uverse. Since they don't compete on telephone service they can't compete for television. Plus from what I've seen of Uverse and heard about FIOS I can't imagine picking Uverse over FIOS even if given the chance.
I've never understood: Is UVerse 2 HD simultaneously into the house or into the box? Will 2 boxes net you four HD channels at the same time?
It's two HD streams into the house.
It's 2 HD streams into the house. The stream is limited by bandwidth so you basically get enough bandwidth to handle 2 HD, 2 SD, and up to 10.0 / 1.5 Mbps internet. I was watching a show in HD this week and message popped up telling me to watch an SD show or switch to one of the 2 HD shows I was recording.
Sure, they add 30 new HD channels and then re-compress them and redistribute them as HDlite?
I just got att uverse. I realize they do have more hd channels compared to comcast which I had for a while before I switched up. but I noticed that att hd channels are more compressed compared to comcast which sucks. I believe att only dishes out 6mbs compared to comcast 8, direct tv which is 8 to 10. You get more hd channels but the quality of picture isn't as good.
I don't know if any of you have call this 800 number 877 - 827-5288 and the refferral code of RG045T. I tried online and I was being shown as Not available. My brother in Texas gave me this number and I was told it was available on their system for NC. I hope this helps others trying to get this service. I am scheduled for install and very patiently waiting for that day!
