Mitsubishi's $6,999 65-inch LaserVue HDTV now hitting retailers
Just in time for your holiday wish list, Mitsubishi has announced that its stunning 65-inch LaserVue HDTV is now on sale at select specialty retailers nationwide. From what we've personally seen and from what we've gathered from those lucky enough to critique it in detail, this here set is a real winner. Of course, coming up with the $6,999 in order to bring one home is another matter entirely, but those who feel like stimulating the economy and their retinas can absolutely do so starting today.

Great TV, some design issues, but picture quality is just fantastic. Happily i spent some time up close with one a few weeks back.
Big problem, PRICE. for a Projection set, it is just too expensive for what it is. Mitsubishi honestly believes they can PR spin it into being the alternative to flat panel sets like Elite Kuro.
Sorry, it is just over priced. until these sets have more moderate pricing, ie $5k list price and on sale for $3500. it is just way too much.
Mitsubishi, get these tv's into bigger production and price them in a way people will buy them in #'s. Now that Sony stopped making projection sets, Mitsubishi has an opportunity to own the market, seriously, but they won't if they price it ridiculously high like they have!!
Agreed, in terms of picture quality it may be on terms with the Kuro line but its still 7k for a massive television. I would like to see one mounted on a wall, I have a feeling that is not going to look very attractive. I don't believe these will be the "big hype" for the holiday season.
How was the off angle viewing? One of the things I really appreciated going to direct-view was that it didn't dim off axis like RPs do.
Does this dim off axis?
They might have to price these TVs this high to pay for the repair bills if they are anything like their DLP technology TVs. I owned a Mits DLP and got rid of it after it was blowing out the light bulbs prematurely. Who knows how many hours the lasers will last and how much to replace? I would never recommend anyone buying a laser TV until at least the 3rd generation when the problems have hopefully been fixed. Just keep in mind, new technology means a new set of problems.
Pahleeeeease.. you can get a 67" Samsung LED DLP for about $1700 that's just wayyyyy too expensive.
Yeah, way too expensive for what it is, but I'm sure the street price will be much lower than the MSRP. MIGHT be reasonable at 75". Flat panels have never appealed to me and I don't intend to put anything in front of or below my main HDTV and I've always loved the price savings you got with a high contrast high resolution rear projection display over comparably capability in plasma or LCD.
I very much regret Sony leaving the SXRD rear projection business and would consider this Mitsu at a larger screen (or is this the biggest)?
Other sizes?
I want! The price will come down in a few months. Remember when plasmas were going for like $30K a few years back? Anew car or TV? Hmmmm.
I'm pretty sure they had this at a magnolia. This appears to be what I saw and not the other mitsu models, judging mainly from the appearance and sculpting of the base. There was still styrofoam/cardboard bits on it, and had no label, so it was definitely just unpacked. There was a weird note on it that it was not to be sold.
However, from a cursory inspection there was nothing special. Colors were noticeably more accurate than other displays (esp red & green), but I can't say that it's better in any way than DLP or LCOS. The feed lacked brilliant saturated colors, so it's hard to tell. The feed was the the usual hidef 1080i, so either it's not the TV or the signal processing is lacking to make that content shine.
Eh, for that price I'd just go with a KURO Elite.
The Viewing angle is excellent on this tv. surprisingly so. I didn't notice any dimming off axis either. it really did a great job. I recommend your checking the tv out, make sure they are using a blu-ray 1080p source movie material though.
My biggest beef with mitsubishi is pricing. this television is grossly over priced!
No way - I'd buy a projector (the new Sony) or some other one for $4K and buy a $1.5K sweet screen. Save money AND watch a sweet picture on 110" of glory.
Does anybody bother to READ the linked articles BEFORE making some of these stupid comments? Come on people, there's more to the post than just the words above. Read the linked articles, that's WHY Darren puts them there!
well, for one thing it's very difficult to find an actual article because 90% of the links in any of these blog entries are to other blog entries. It's junketized news, catering to people who want their news junketized, and it's crosslinked to other junkets to keep people junketing.
Besides, half the time I read the actual articles linked from engadget, it becomes apparent that the blogger didn't read the articles in the first place, but skimmed and summarized.
It's epidemic.
The problem with trying to sell a $7K product in a retail environment is that you will never get the performance benefits with all that ambient lighting around. Given the price alone you are targeting people with $/brains, and those selling little Timmy's milk money for one of these is a true cowsumer.
Im not sure if anyone is aware but the 1st plasma was actually made in the 80's. look how long its taken for them to be decent and affordable. laser will be the same. the 1st one will be balls and way too much. ud b better off buyin a samsung led lcd.
Well, I think that Mitsubishi has done a great job even designing and bringing this new technology to the market. Laser tv is producing 90% of the color spectrum that is concieved by the eyes, versus approx. 35% by your average lcd systems. Also, the 3D aspects, which are not even being discussed here as of yet, are a huge plus for this product. In fact, I believe the 3D technology will become a hit in the gaming community also. I am doing more research and posting more info here:

I believe the Laservue is a good investment into the home entertainment center. It is worth the money. Remember, originally the plasmas were even more expensive, and they came down. The same will happen to these cutting edge tv's. If you dont have the money, or just want to save, then I advise you to just wait a couple years and you will get a great deal. But for the rest of us who have the money and would like to upgrade to a superior system with enhanced 3D technologies built right in,( which will become even more esential as the video products come out with ever increasing amounts of 3 dimentional viewing games and movies, etc., ) I say, go ahead and get one, you wont be sorry. Consider it a wise investment into your home entertainment center, which will provide you with tremendous viewing pleasure for years to come.
Peace,
David
