$35 for an older title?! You gotta be kidding me! I bought the Sideways DVD at Circuit City for literally $5.99 and Donnie Darko for $9.99 (pre liquidation prices-i bought these 2 years ago). New Releases need to go down to $15 and lower and older titles need to be $10 and lower in order for me to actually start purchasing Blu-Rays......until then I'll just rent em from Netflix......
Yeah, I wouldn't say these releases are newsworthy. These are the kinds of titles you see at the Used DVDs section at Blockbuster or Hollywood Video sitting in the 3 for $15 section unbought for years.
While the MSRP is high, it is not what you will actually pay for retail.
Also, new release 2-disc special edition DVDs aren't even priced at $15 or below, usually around $22-23, so why do new release BDs need to be lower than that?
It's MSRP genius. They are not going sell for this much in real stores. If you pay MSRP somewhere for a movie, then let's just say you deserved to pay that much for not shopping around in the least bit.
Take it easy, man. He's right, some of the 2-disc special edition DVDs are priced at $20-25 ($40 MSRP). In fact, Iron Man is still priced that way...even on Amazon. The Blu-ray and DVD editions are almost the same price.
Nevermind, sorry Thizzle7XU, I just realized you weren't talking to Vic. It gets tough to tell in these long strings of replies.
Loved both of those. Never have bought many movies, even DVDs. Usually just rent them and watch once. There are so many to choose from, finding time to watch is a challenge.
If the DD BD includes both the theatrical and director's cuts, I'm in. But if not...well, $35 is sort of steep (even if nobody ends up actually paying that much, thanks to Amazon & Co.).
Read the link.
that donnie darko cover is sick with the bluray cases
I also tire of the whiny MSRP complaints when anyone who has not recently had a brain biopsy knows that it won't actually sell for that when it comes out except for in a few brick and Mortar stores.
Ebay and online buying is ubiquitous enough that anyone wanting a lower price can easily find it and as stated in some replies 2 Disc "special" edition DVDs are priced within just a few dollars of the same Blu-ray versions when they first release.
Hit Amazon and price check, most used Blu-rays, which have a hard coating that makes a used one even less likely to be scratched to a level that affects playing the disc, are 11 to 16 dollars WITH shipping included. I have a friend that does the buy 3 at Hollywood video and he's got at least a dozen movies he's not that interested in that he bought to get the third movie in the 3 for 25 deal. The Amazon pricing is not a buy X to get this price, just buy 1 used Blu-ray you actually want and pay maybe only 9 dollars for it.( I found the Night at the museum Blu-ray for that on Amazon, including shipping cost.)
And, yes it is a special edition Blu-ray that contains BOTH cuts of the film. For any DD lover that has a Blu-ray player this is THE version to own.

If this is an example of what they'll be doing with movies I can see a bit more of Double Dipping by movie lovers as time goes on.
i can't wait for these two big budget, high octane, action films to be with perfect sound and picture quality that the masses are asking for... wait, these two movies are not all that... you mean Star Wars, X-Men, and other Fox movies are still not in Blu and these two will be. And people wonder why Blu-Ray could fail.
HELL NO! You couldn't pay me to take Donnie Darko off your hands! I HATED that fucking movie!
And it hated you.
These are two of my favorite movies... this news couldn't have been better to hear.
Next Fox release I need is Fight Club and my list of top movies will be complete. (Top two favorite are Donnie Darko and Fight Club, Sideways would be in the top 5 to top 10. I'm just assuming my other top 5's are already out and owned, but can't think right now.)
