AT&T launches Max 18: 18Mbps internet for U-verse TV customers
AT&T may be looking into the merits of capping bandwidth on its DSL users, but those currently tapping into U-verse services now have yet another option for sucking down files at a snappier rate. Beginning on November 9th, new and current U-verse TV users will be able to upgrade to Max 18, a new high-speed internet tier that provides up to 18Mbps down; curiously, AT&T fails to mention the theoretical upload speed that surely corresponds. At any rate, U-verse TV users purchasing high-speed internet as part of a bundle can replace their current level of service with Max 18 for $65 per month (total, not an upgrade fee). No word on any caps just yet, but you know some suit way up high in AT&T's ivory tower is mulling it over.

Give me 5Mbps upstream and I'm sold.
Considering how tiny of a potential customer base U-verse has, and then considering how many U-verse capable homes actually have broadband service, I do not see this anywhere near as interesting as what is available in the cable and Fios arenas.
And also considering that AT&T has changed their policies to state that 100% of the information traveling across a U-verse connection belongs to AT&T, and that they can do whatever they wish with it (give it to the NSA, resell it, etc.) then its a cold question to ask what you will be doing with an 18 Mbps connection that isn't illegal for which the AT&T government eyes will not find interesting.
Good night, and good luck.
It's ok, the new 18 Mbps service comes with free tinfoil hats.
Working for AT&T U-Verse, I can tell you the upload is only 1.5Mps.
1.5mbit upload still is pretty lame... Why would someone want to pay another $10 more a month for 8mbit more download vs the 10mbit/1.5mbit Max speed?? $55 a month is what it costs for the 10/1.5 which IMO is high already, this should simply just be changed to the new max speed package @ $55 /month... I can't see anyone getting this unless they simply have money to burn...
Max 18 is a $10 upgrade from the Max 10, and as a promo it will come with a $10 bill credit each month for the first 12 months, so it's free for a year if you have Max 10 right now.
