So Rob78, are you buying digital downloads? How much did they cost, which devices do they play on, which stores can you buy them from, are their restrictions on which devices you can play on, how do you play them on other devices, how do you lend them to friends, can you sell them on when you are done, what happens if the device activation service is shutdown, how much is your unlimited broadband package? etc.
Digital downloads are convenient if you have uncapped high speed broadband and want to rent a movie. After all, who cares about DRM or the best audio/video quality for a rental which will expire in 24 hours. They're not so hot if you actually want to own a movie. I'm not sure if you consider ownership "quaint" or not, but digital downloads are a long way off supporting ownership.
