Another one bites the proverbial dust. Hot on the heels of Tweeter zipping up its
distribution centers comes word that the Florida-based Sound Advice will be throwing in the towel as well. Interestingly enough, we
just heard hours ago that ripples from the Circuit City / Tweeter closings could affect upscale dealers, and here we are watching 22 boutique shops liquidate their current inventory and call it a done deal. About 50 employees stand to lose their jobs, but of course, those with an outlet around can take advantage of some killer deals right about now. Granted, this probably has quite a bit to do with the fact that Tweeter actually acquired Sound Advice in 2001 for $61 million, and generally speaking, children don't fare too well when their parents hit the skids.
You might be right, it could just be the fall-out from the recent take-over.
On the otherhand it could be a collapse in trade is beginning to show & bite.
Did you know that the cost of international bulk shipping has just fallen off of a cliff as commodity & goods trade is drying up?
Oh, I know, it's that boring old economics stuff & bringing some tedious old relevant (if wider) facts to the table.
But there you go.
The excrement is in flight, on its way and about to hit that fan.
Note the recent round of global interest rate reductions.
Can you say 'panic'?
Aw - I bought my first DVD player (a 2nd gen Panny), speakers (Boston Acoustics) and big screen (50" Mitsu) from Sound Advice back in the day. I've moved from FL to PA, and wondered if they were still around.
Here's hoping some HT retailers are able to survive.

Sounds Advice is owned by Tweeter, so this is really the same closing.
Bye Sound Advice - they rip you off with overpriced electronics and the wall of Monster Cable...
Wow...glad I left when I did! FYI Sound Advice quit carrying Monster Cable about 2 years ago!
