Amazingly I just picked up the Vudu unit and wireless kit for it. It's very nice. The quality even with regular HD titles (not HDX) is pretty damn good even better then Xbox one and HDX is pretty much the same as Blu-Ray. I don't really see any difference.
I had the pleasure to talk to the Vudu representative and he just told me that they are getting ready to kick butt with new updates, adding additional network features and bonus content and allowing ALL purchases to be redownloaded so you don't have any fear that you will lose your money/movies you bought through them.
Exciting really. I'm really enjoying it and it makes me very happy that their catalog is massive. I think I'll use Netflix/Xbox combo only for specific things but Vudu is my main movie watching machine these days for rental.
Try it, it will definitely make you think twice about downloads.
Is it a subscription based rental or per title? I don't see the value of a per title rental if I can Netflix BDs AND watch certain movies streamed with a fixed monthly cost.
I will say that DL's are starting to look a lot more promising than I previously thought for rentals, but for now, I'm sticking with Netflix for rentals and BD for movies I want to own.
"I'm a college student looking for a new laptop, but almost all of my media I receive digitally. I'm looking for a laptop, not a netbook, without an optical drive, and budget sensitive. The optical drive will just be a waste of space, when I can have thinner laptop. What's out there?"
