TWC announces HD expansion for Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens
With FiOS HD hittin' hot and heavy in the Big Apple, TWC is making moves to ensure that it stays at least competitive with Verizon. The latest channel update for three of the five NYC boroughs includes updates for Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, with Northern Manhattan getting a special helping. There are far too many additions to cover in this space, so we'll point you to the full notice hosted just after the break. Sorry, south-siders, maybe next time. Time Warner Cable has an agreement with NBC to carry USA HD, Sci-Fi HD, and Bravo HD? This is the first time I have heard of any of these channels on a TWC system.
Nice...
there is a disclaimer at the bottom of the time warner page... "Please note that the launch and availability of the services indicated in BOLD are entirely contingent upon contractual negotiations. Accordingly, it is possible that the specified service may not launch on this date"
The channels in bold are Chiller HD, Sleuth HD, Style HD, Fuse HD , Nick HD, Lifetime HD, CNBC HD, USA HD, SciFi HD, Bravo HD, E! HD , QVC HD, Spike HD, and HSN HD.
For those who are wondering: Northern Manhattan = north of w79th and e86th streets
Also, this is all coming December 17th.
(2 more were left off the list: NBATVHD and the NBA League Pass 'TEAMHD' channel)
BOOOOO!!!!!! UNION SQUARE NEEDS TO GET ALL THOSE CHANNELS!!!!!!
these channels are also coming to Staten Island as well...i just checked the website
Will any of the new HD channels be including in the regular digital cable package or will they all be on an HD package tier? December 17th huh? Can't wait, I'm at W 96th, can't get FIOS yet.
By the way does anyone actually know if FIOS will be offered on the upper west side anytime soon?
1) There is no 'new' HD tier - if you already get the SD channel, you'll get the available HD channel. (The existing HD Xtra tier (HDNET and HDNETMovies (Mojo will be gone very shortly)) also includes the Sports channels in the 450s - so you'll get those HD channels that way as well.)
(It's not clear what level MGMHD will be - it's a replacement for Mojo on other systems, so it's possible it'll be treated the same for us - but nobody knows for sure yet)
2) There is no FiOS timetable for NYC - it is going to be on a building-by-building/block-by-block basis. It could take up to 5 years.
Go FIOS ! Get rid of cable. They've been overcharging us for over thirty years.
Start Over has appeared in Brooklyn. Although it doesn't work all that well right now with constant digital picture breakup.
Any idea as to when TWC will get around to launching these new HD channels in Southern Manhattan?
RCN sounds like they are a lot closer to launching a more substantial HD offering in
lower Manhattan than TWC currently offers and I'm thinking about switching over.
I think it stupid that I've not getting all the HD channels because I'm in the "southern" part of Brooklyn.
